Perineal Pain Misdiagnosed
Insola A, Granata G, Padua L. Alcock canal syndrome due to obturator internus muscle fibrosis. Muscle Nerve. 2010 Sep;42(3):431-2.
Pain in the perineum can come from pudendal nerve problems, as they did in this patient. In this case, the pain was not caused by the nerve being trapped in Alcock’s canal, the area where the nerve crosses the “sit bone.” Instead, it was caused by development of fibrous tissue in the obturator internus muscle after an injury. That muscle connects the top of the thigh bone to the pelvis. The diagnosis was missed for two years and was made only after neurophysiologic testing and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). These authors said that this case underlines the need for doctors to perform these kinds of tests and studies in patients with neuropathic perineal pain, which can occurs in patients with IC and chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome.

ANYONE HEAR OF THESE DOCS????

I was encouraged that this is making headlines on the ICA... as I was misdiagnosed with IC and have confirmed PNE.

Yes I have, they're researchers, not clinicians. I found some other thing from them a long time ago, saying PNE needs more study.

I read the article. It is a single case analysis. There is nothing new that I learned to be honest.
