Nerve Cross Talk

Post by kat »

Since surgery I've found 'cross talk' to be a painful problem. Cross talk is defined by this site as pudendal nerves 'talking' to the nerves below the waist and causing them to become hyper sensitive. The lower part of my body was usually numb and now my flesh feels like it is on fire. I use Lidocane on the left side of my vaginal area and the front of my pelvic bone and use Bengay patches on my inner thighs and the front of my left pelvis daily. My left leg feels like the bone inside is shattered. Clothing and air hurt it.

Do any of you have this 'cross talk' situation going on?

Thanks for any advice.

Kathy
Born with pudendal and obtorator neuralgia. 32 years of being misdiagnosed.
Surgery with Conway 7/14/10. Internal burning cured!
Currently in PT for many pelvic floor issues due to having PN for so long.

Kathy, I used to have that problem but not much anymore. I used a lot of gel ice packs and also took narcotics for the first 9 months after surgery. How long ago was your surgery?
PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Kathy

The sensation that clothes hurt etc is called Allodynia.....I have had this for many years now...the water in the shower is painful as is hard fabrics including denim etc. It is the surface nerves talking to the more deeper ones saying im hurting...at least that was an explanation i was given by a gynae a long time ago.
I find on a day to day basis that if i avoid fabrics that cause this sensation I can avoid the extra hurting they cause....not normal but liveable with!

Selbourne, believe me I have tried deep breathing and also counting to a hundred but with this pain it doesnt make a difference.
Would you like to tell us what caused your pain and what treatments or experiences you have encountered so far?
PNE started 2003 following Vaginal Hysterectomy, pelvic floor repair and right oophorectomy; eventually after many tests had BilateralTG surgery Nantes 2004; following this tried many other treatments including 7 day epidural, ketamin infusions to no avail; Trialed and was implanted with a Neurostimulator in 2007- Dr Van Buyten Belgium, this has enabled me to manage my pain much better.

Kathy,

I definitely have some cross talk with my left sciatic nerve and sometimes it hurts on the inside of my left calf. I think this is very common with this condition. It can also cross over to the other side of the anogenital area too according to my PN doctor but I have not noticed this since my PNE surgery which was left side only.

Selbourne, I find that breathing exercises are helpful for pain which is moderate, or intermittent pain such as labor contractions but are not much use for the severe pain of PNE. They do help some though as does imagery. I was just reading another post written today by you, and sorry to say these symptoms do sound a lot like PN

Diagnosed with left side PN by Dr Renney, March 2010, after over 2 years of searching for help
Left TG Surgery, Dr Ansell, August 2010, failed to relieve pain
