Post by vmat3 »

My pudendal neuralgia seems to flair up and it has recently with stinging mostly . It seems to flare up for a couple of days and seems like during high stress periods. Does anyone find stress as a reason for flare Ups? Oh, I am 65 yr old male.

My flare-ups were related to physical activity but there have been other patients who felt that stress played a role. I can see how that might make sense if stress causes you to clench your pelvic floor muscles and the tight muscles impinge on the nerve going through Alcock's canal which runs right between the obturator internus muscle and the levator ani muscles.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

I think some people are prone to physical response to stress. Stress changes your physiological state, just as "too much activity" might do. I have had neuro type pain all my adult life and it always gets worse with stress. PN has been so overwhelming these past five years, I can barely distinguish periods of intensifying stress.

But I've learned to treat extra stress as increased physical activity. More rest, more stretching, more restful & restorative strategies. And DON'T be hard on yourself. Be gentle to yourself.

Hope that helps.

Kindly,

I suffered from ptsd and the meds where ineffective for 1 year prior to my pn. I guess the continues stress and fight and flight response made me prone to have PN. Even though it started after a tough orkout. So yes I think it does. So u should try to manage your stress, even if it meant taking extra meds, so u should follow up with a psychiatrist. I hope I am of any kind of help to you. Wish you will get better dear.
