I have been having acupuncture done for the past month to treat pudendal neuralgia. I noticed when I first started treatment that I had some pain relief, but the last few treatments have started to not make a difference in my pain levels.
This is my first time receiving acupuncture. How long should I continue? When do you know when to stop? My body is very sensitive and I bruise occasionally from it. Would you suggest I ask for the treatment plan or what should I expect the outcome to be? Will this help with long term relief?
I just am in need of some guidance. I’m one day away from stopping gabapentin and weaned myself off the medication in the last two weeks so this is my only treatment/pain relief right now. If there are any other women suffering from pudendal neuralgia/pelvic dysfunction i’d Like to hear what treatments helped you get better. Any guidance on acupuncture would also be so helpful! I called a patient advocate but received no call back and thought your group could help me.
Acupuncture for Pudendal Neuralgia
Re: Acupuncture for Pudendal Neuralgia
Hi J,
I can't say for sure how many treatments you should try. I also tried acupuncture but it didn't really help much, other than maybe some slight temporary pain relief.
I think the treatments to try would depend on a number of different variables, including your history, your symptoms, your clinical exam results, and physical therapy evaluation results. For me surgery was the answer but I don't think it is for most people. Do you have any idea what might have triggered your symptoms?

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
