Labral tear, muscle spasms/tightness, pelvic pain, etc

I'm male who following an accident has had issues with sexual dysfunction, urination, and pelvic/groin pain which also radiates to the genitals.

My physical therapist disgnosed a labral tear caused by FAI and said that it could be causing muscle spasms around the hip joint which in turn can cause pain and symptoms.

I received surgery for the injury and have yet to see any of this benefit. The first day I felt fantastic and experienced no symptoms however they gradually started to come back. The surgery has otherwise been a breeze with few associated problems other than general numbness in the groin and related areas as a result of dislocation of the hip prior to.

I would like to know if anyone here has experienced relief of symptoms similar to mine following this surgery (arthroscopic femoroplasty and labral repair) and at what period in the recovery this happened. I am very distressed given how well I felt the first day in comparison to now. I would also like to know when the numbness ends post op. Thanks.

I haven't had that surgery myself so I can't say for sure. You might want to read this thread. http://www.pudendalhope.info/forum/view ... f=9&t=3487
You could also do a search on Lernica, Jax87, and Beverly's posts on this forum for more information. They all 3 had a similar surgery.

I can't say for sure why the first day you felt better -- maybe the lingering anesthesia or post-op pain meds? Or maybe you were feeling so well that maybe you overdid it on activities? Generally speaking though, after chronic pain it takes time for muscles to get back to normal so it may take some rest and then when you are cleared for PT you might benefit from PT to help get the muscles functioning normally again. After surgery, I found a TENS unit helpful in getting the muscles to calm down. Also, alternating heat and ice helps to improve circulation to the area and promotes healing. I used both of those a lot.

Good luck,

Violet

Okay thank you, it just sucks to be dealing with this in addition to other injuries I sustained during the accident which caused my labral tear.

Yep, especially when you are young it's hard because you want to be out enjoying life. But hopefully in a year or so you will be feeling great again and be able to do some of the activities you enjoy. You might have to be a little bit careful the rest of your life as far as doing any extreme sports but at least maybe you can live relatively pain-free and enjoy moderate sports -- depending on what your doctors think is OK. There is always something in life to enjoy -- even if it's something as simple as an ice cream sundae, eh?

It has been several weeks since the surgery and still only my hip pain has been cured. I may have a bilateral tear, has anyone else received relief after treatment of a bilateral tear?
