Does Hibner order MRI's by Olga Kalinkin

Post by Faith »

If Dr. Kalinkin can do the 3T MRI and read for PNE has Hibner ordered any pt's to get an MRI by her. I know several people reccommend Dr. Potter in NY, but if you can have an MRI in Phoenix it sure would save not to have to travel to NY too. I guess Dr. Potter is just more experienced..is that it?
-11/08 vulvodynia began around conception of first & only pregnancy
-3/10 sacral/sitting pain began after SIJD manipulation
-Progressive widespread pain- central sensitization
-PT, meds, injections, botox, ESWT = debilitated.
-5/12 Potter MRI - scarring of left ST, coccygeous & posterior alcock
-12/12 - left FAI/labral hip tear surgery
2014-2019 managed w/ gabapentin, massage, and lifestyle mod
2020 - big flare up

Faith,
Since you reside in Kentucky,it would be better for you to go to Dr. Potter.I believe that Dr. Olga Kalinkin is equally good, but Dr. Potter is more experienced.

Diagnosed for PNE by Dr. Jerome Weiss in June 2007.Started PT with Amy Stein in NYC.
PT for almost 3 years now without any results.
Pudendal Nerve blocks in August,2007 by Dr. Quesda left me with sitting pain.
Unilateral TIR approach with Dr. Bautrant on 18 Febuary,2010 with no major improvements and sitting is much worse.
MRI By Dr. Potter reveals nerve entrapment in the ST,AC and DN.
Dorsal Nerve Decompression surgery on April 8,2011
Redo surgery by Dr. Hibner on July 18,2011

I'm sure Dr. Hibner wouldn't send his patients to Dr. Kalinkin if she wasn't good enough. It would be so much more affordable to go there when you're already in Phoenix, and a lot less time away from home. While you could get the one done in NY sooner...you would still have to wait for your Phoenix appt in order to do anything with the results.
PNE as a result of childbirth, 2002. Treatment by the Houston team, with neurosurgery by Dr. Ansell in 2004. My left side ST and SS ligaments were found to be grown together, encasing the pudendal nerve.

I am cured. I hope you will be, too.

There are no medical answers on the forum. Your only hope is to go to a doctor. I was very happy with the Houston team, which has treated the most PNE patients (well over 400), more than any other US provider.

Ali, didn't you say something to me in another thread about Dr. Kalinkin doing 1.5T not 3T ? or is this just my neurontin brain at work again?
pelvic pain started 1985 age 14 interstitial cystitis. Refused medical care from age 17, did GREAT with self care for years.
2004 PN started gradually, disabled by 2009. Underlying cause SIJD & Tarlov cysts
improved with PT & meds: neurontin, valium, nortriptyline, propanolol. (off nortriptyline & propanolol now, yay!)
Tarlov cyst surgery with Dr. Frank Feigenbaum March 20, 2012.
Results have been excellent so far; but I won't know my final functional level for a couple of years.

Dear HerMajesty,
You are absolutely correct about Dr. Olga Kalinkin. She uses 1.5 Tesla with a contrast dye which I could feel travelling along my Pudendal Nerve, because my PN nerve had a slight burning sensation during the procedure.Because Dr. Potter uses 3 Tesla MRI,she doesn't need a contrast dye.Although, both their findings correlated with each other with the exception that Dr. Potter pointed out that there is an entrapment on the right side in the Alcock's Canal, which Dr. Olga Kalinkin didn't point out in her report.

However,I do have sitting pain on the right side as well which correlates more with Dr. Potter's findings.

Dr. Hibner told me that people living on the East Coast should go to Dr. Potter and the ones living on the West Coast can go to Dr. Olga Kalinkin.Patti or Lisa Wadsworth can schedule the MRI of the Pudendal Nerve within a week or so with Dr. Olga Kalinkin. The Midwest people can decide whomever they want to go to. :D
