For the first time Pudendal Nerve Surgery is set to be included in the highly respected Youmans Neurological Surgery, 6th Edition to be published this year. This is fantastic news for pudendal nerve surgery and for PNE patients.

The Youmans Neurological Surgery, 6th Edition is described below.
There is no doubt that Neurological Surgery is the grand dame of the major neurosurgical textbooks…and is recommended without hesitation

Hi Charlie,
It does sound like good news! How did you find out PN surgery would be included?
Warm regards,
Karyn

Dr Filler told me when I had an appointment a while ago. I am weary of mentioning a particular surgeon as sometimes people perceive you as promoting them. I don't have any details about what method of surgery is explained in this edition I'm afraid.

I know Dr Filler ended his 2009 paper with this paragraph.
Understanding that the pudendal nerve can be entrapped at several different locations greatly improves the potential for success in treating patients whose symptoms affecting the perineum and urogenital/anorectal systems indicate a potentially neurological basis. The availability of new methods to reliably diagnose and treat these entrapments will be helpful to a significant number of patients who have had little hope of relief in the past. Although neurosurgeons have traditionally avoided involvement with this class of pathology, it is clear that physicians in other specialties hesitate to undertake complex surgical treatments of nerves. The result has been an “orphan” condition with untreated patients who are often disabled by their symptoms. The diagnosis and treatment of pudendal nerve disorders should be incorporated into the knowledge base of neurosurgeons.
I don't think anyone with this condition would disagree with this. The inclusion of Pudendal nerve surgery in the Youmans Neurological Surgery, 6th Edition will certainly help to achieve this.

Oh, I definitely don't disagree, but I wonder where the newly published information in the 6th edition of Neurological Surgery came from? Dr. Filler, his self?
And no, Charlie - I don't consider you to be promoting Filler. :)
Warm regards,
Karyn

This is AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME NEWS ! I don't care if the information came from my dog... the fact that it is going to be RECOGNIZED AND INCLUDED in this book is paramount for getting the word out about our disease.

Thanks for posting this, Charlie. Do you know if they have a Google book preview of it yet, or has the edition not yet been released?

Yes, the medical community can accomplish what even the most well-meaning patients cannot. I think this event has come from those doctors who have been able to publish in medical journals about the work that they've done.

I agree A's Mommy, it is great news. The edition will be released on 03/18/11 and at $954 it's pretty expensive!

With all our digging and searching, we should be able to get that chapter free somehow.....
