Is xanax something bad to be on for anxiety for a long time? I need something for anxiety, but want to avoid SSRI's because of the withdraw that can potentially make pgad worse... I know xanax is considered addictive. but is it safer than an ssri?

I haven't heard of the same effects with benzodiazepines as with SSRI's but they are addictive and may lose some of their effectiveness over time. I preferred clonazepam to xanax. It has some anti-seizure properties and worked better at calming the nerve. I think it is also longer acting. You can't go off of it suddenly because you could have seizures. I had no problem getting off of it after using it for about a year but I went off slowly.

Clonazepam is not an SSRI -- it's a benzodiazepine. I've never heard of benzo's causing PGAD.

hi,
i'm new here, xanax is good medication for anxiety when compared to SSRI, once confirm with your doctor about this, becoz he only knows about your medical history or else try very less dosage.better to do yoga meditation for anxiety.
