how long can you sit for

Post by jacko »

Hi guys and a happy holiday season.

I would be really interested to know how long you can sit in particular when driving.
I can do about 15 minutes and then things start to get worse and worse quite quickly.

Ive just purchased an ic cushion and waiting for it to arrive soon so I hope it might help a bit.

Many thanks

Hi Jacko

I can sit in a car for about ten minutes before the tingling and sensations begin to take hold....I always use several pillows while in a car, it makes me too tall so over any bumps on a road I hit the roof! I am tall so this doesnt help.

While sitting in restaurants I always take ice packs with me and a doughnut cushion and end up standing up every now and then!
PNE started 2003 following Vaginal Hysterectomy, pelvic floor repair and right oophorectomy; eventually after many tests had BilateralTG surgery Nantes 2004; following this tried many other treatments including 7 day epidural, ketamin infusions to no avail; Trialed and was implanted with a Neurostimulator in 2007- Dr Van Buyten Belgium, this has enabled me to manage my pain much better.

Driving is the worst type of sitting for me. Today, my commute was very uncomfortable for me. But I had almost no problem sitting at my desk for 20 minute spurts throughout the day to answer email, rest my back, etc. I drive with the IC cushion most of the time. That is my favorite cushion!

When you guys are asking how long can you sit do you mean without pain or while in pain? When I sit whether I am on a donut or not I do feel some burning sensation in the tip of my penis, which is a little bit less pronounced when on a donut. I can sit through the pain for about 2-3 hours though. Can you guys as well, or is the pain so bad that you cant even sit after ten minutes?

To answer your question about 15 mins mild pain each 5 minutes after that it gets progressively worse. I get alot of abominal pressure and when driving a very sore perinium. I would say the max I could go if it was urgent would be 30-40 mins but I would be paying the price for that for a good few days after.

I should say that im not taking regular meds or using a cushion at present but am awaiting my ic cushion to arrive.
Maybe a combination of meds and cushion will extend my sitting time. I never sit at home at all, not even when eating what about you guys at home.

regards

I never sit at home unless I'm in a recliner and technically I guess that isn't sitting. Sitting, no matter how long, is always painful for me. I use an IC cushion in the car and turn on my seat warmer and that seems to help relax the muscles somewhat but it is still uncomfortable. I don't sit at restaurants either. My husband and I have started eating in the bar area since they have high top tables there. Thank God Michigan implemented no smoking in restaurants in September.

Regarding sitting on donut cushions. That does not work for me because it ends up causing more pressure in my perineum and it makes the pain worse. I'm considering ordering a thicker IC cushion to see if it would work better for me. I currently use the smallest one and it just doesn't seem to provide much relief.

Griff- try the 3 inch ic cushion. The 2 inch did not help me either but the 3 inch has saved me and has allowed me to continue to work. Good luck!

Thanks Merrie. Do you have the 3 in in the soft foam or firm?
