Post-Op pain relief after 1 year or more?

I would like to hear from folks that have had post-op pain relief several months following decompression surgery.

It has been almost 8 months since I had surgery with Dr. Antolak and I think my pain is still worse than prior to surgery.

1 - 3 months post op - Pain was much worse.
4 - 5 months post op - Pain decreased somewhat, but still worse that prior to surgery.
6 - 7 months post op - Pain decreased to pre-surgery levels. (almost)
Last few weeks - the pain seems to have increased, making daily activities difficult.

I noticed that the improvement is not consistent, as I'm sure many of you have experienced. It seems I feel pretty good for a few weeks, then the pain increases for the next few weeks.

I was told 9 - 24 months to be pain free. Now, I'm not expecting to get to pain free levels, but hoping for maybe 50% improvement.

Has anyone experienced post-op relief of symptoms after 1 year or more?

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
We all seem to follow a different path but I can say that at 6 months postop per my post in success stories I wascrossing from pre surgery levels and doing a bit better. Now at 2.5 years I still see improvement and most issues are more due to getting out of pelvic alignment with pain around the core that I need to keep strengthening. Hoping to get more exercises at PT this week. I recently went through water therapy to strengthen the core and acupuncture helped which I posted again in success at 2 year mark. Hang in there it can take some longer than others I was originally out 3 months and the doc thought I should be working in amonth! There is no specific timeframe so do not give up hope.

Hi Chris,

I was improving at 9 months but couldn't really count on a decent day until 18 months post-op and continued to see improvements even after that. I did some PT at about 11 months post-op that helped some of the muscles to relax, especially the obturator internus using a TENS unit.

Best,

Violet
