GREAT NEW PRODUCT TO REDUCE CHAFING WHILE WEARING SKIRTS

Post by lindsayg »

Sorry, this is just for female sufferers. I have had PN for 4 years and have not been able to wear pants or underpants. Problem with skirts is my thighs chaff. Jockey.com has a new product called skimmies. The longer ones are made to prevent chaffing. They look like spanx but are much softer material, not made to hold you in. Just to prevent chaffing. And there are no seams in the crotch. I have found great relief from these.

Diagnosed with PN Dr. John McDonald UCLA Jan. '12

Had Botox shots Oct '12. Worked great for 6-7 weeks. Had them again Feb.14th 2013 didn't help
Am currently being treated by Dr. Prager in LA.

The skimmies look comfy - afraid i couldn't wear them though as they are not cotton.

I now sometimes wear Pretty Polly Pretty Cool crotchless tights in winter - i just wondered if these might help your chaffing thighs with wearing skirts.

They are like normal 15 denier tights but with the crotch area missing - so seam free around the vagina/vulva area. I buy them online.

I wear skirts with socks at home in winter and the tights/pantyhose if i go out.

Rosemary,
I never thought about them not being cotton! So many things to check off before purchasing anything. I will look into the tights for next winter. Thanks so much for replying.

Actually, if you go to the official Jockey site there is a promotional video which says they are nylon/spandex on the outside and cotton lined on the inside. So that might work...although personally, I get the crawlies even looking at them because they are too form-fitting. I wear loose men's cotton boxers under skirts.
pelvic pain started 1985 age 14 interstitial cystitis. Refused medical care from age 17, did GREAT with self care for years.
2004 PN started gradually, disabled by 2009. Underlying cause SIJD & Tarlov cysts
improved with PT & meds: neurontin, valium, nortriptyline, propanolol. (off nortriptyline & propanolol now, yay!)
Tarlov cyst surgery with Dr. Frank Feigenbaum March 20, 2012.
Results have been excellent so far; but I won't know my final functional level for a couple of years.

Yes - sorry Lindsay my mistake - the skimmie insides are cotton.

Think i might try the mens boxers - thanks for the idea Her Majesty.

I have trouble finding A line cotton skirts - so many are synthetic and not cool and breezy especially in summer.

Her majesty and Rosemary, thanks for the input. I'm afraid if I wore loose men's boxers, those would make my thighs chaff. Have to try a pair. Of course, you need wide skirts so they won't show!

It is nice to have the conversation :) - can't talk ordinarily to others about things like this.

Lindsay, for you men's 100% cotton boxer briefs might work better than boxer shorts, at least they seem more breathable than the jockey product but otherwise they are shaped much the same. Depends on what bothers you the most. I don't have the thigh chafing problem so much as an extremely unpleasant sensation when anything comes in close contact with my skin.

Her majesty, I will have to go this weekend and check out the men's boxers and briefs. If there's a lot of extra fabric, that rubs across the thighs, creating the same problem.
I'm in LA right now, getting ketamine infusions with Dr.Prager. So I don't know, whether I'm coming or going.,,will check out the boxers soon.
