Hi
Wondered if anyone experienced this side effect and what to do?
My issue orginally started with bladder urgency (Painful bladder sydrome) in 2006 with a feeling of not emptying completely..Muscles would tighten up like there was a screwdriver in there as I tried to urinate. I feel constant bladder pressure and my search for relief began.
The meds they gave (some meds like antl-cholinergics anti depressants and several others) exacerbated this feeling, making me even tighter to the pointer where bladder urge and pressure (inability to get it all out) was worse.
Fast forward to now (six years later and Im on an opiod med which hasn't helped with may current anal sitting and standing pain...I m going down on it now.
Docs decide to add in a med for neuropathic pain, which they believe I have... and sure enough the urinary tightening worsened ...the urge and not able to pee enough out etc..
as I take this med. So upsetting.
I really need to go up on it to see if it will help my severe anal pain ...docs and even husband don't get that this symptom is awful as well. They just say, take the med , and see what happens, ,,but now my bladder is killing me again. (With bladder issues you also wonder if its a food flare (as I eat fruits and drink prune juice to help with medically induced constipation, or yeast which Im prone to.. these can flare bladder.
I had heard of other folks online who had gotten these symptom from meds
Anyone here heard of this..
What can I do? I so need pain relief .
Thx!

Ultra Sound in 03/08 showed severely retroverted, detaching uterus with mulitple fibroids and ovarian cysts.
Pressure and pain in lower abdomen and groin area was unspeakable and devastating.
Total lap hysterectomy in 06/08, but damage was already done.
EMG testing in NH in 04/10 - bilateral PN and Ilioinguals
3T MRI at HSS, NY in 09/10
Bilateral TG surgery with Dr. Conway on 03/29/11. Bilat ilioinguinal & iliohypogastric neurectomy 03/12. TCD surgery 04/14.

Re: medicine side effect
Hi Karyn
Thx for your response
I deliberately left out the name of the med, as probably someone has had a bad experience with it, as is the case with all meds. I figured if someone writes of their bad experience, that would me make even more uneasy about taking the med, and probably enable the side effect to worsen. I want to give the med a chance and not be scared of it tho I have this awful recurring symptom with several meds... (Other meds I don't)
I was just trying to find out if anyone out there like me has that reaction to some meds and what they did about it.
In my case its usually anti-cholinergics or also common anti-depressants that are used for pudendal or IC pain.
This med however is not in that category and Im still having that reaction. Part of me wonders if it is self fulfilling and being traumitized by it happening so often in the past..
Ive met a few other folks on other boards who had this side effect.
I wondered if anyone here had there urinary symptoms worsened by meds and what they did about it? I am in god awful anal pain as soon as get up and about and can't even attempt to sit but am going crazy from unresolved pain and being isolated from normal life. Docs, therapists even my husband are impatient and dont "get" that bladder urge and urgency and hesitancy can be awfully painful as well...Who needs both types of pain?
Would my system get used to it over time? My body as a rule doesn't like meds and before this pelvic pain ordeal I had no need to take anything at all...
Ive been on this med for about 2 weeks at low dose and each day after taking it big time bladder urge and frequency hit ...( Like IC symptoms etc)
If anyone has had to deal with pls respond.. any advice is appreciated..
Thx!

Re: medicine side effect
Hi Kath,
I can really relate to not being able to take meds. I've never had increased bladder symptoms because of them, though. I just have a severe sensitivity to ALL meds. For me, dealing with the pain is bad enough. I can't do the pain and med side effects, too. Some people are able to get used to them over time. I'm not one of those people. I hope someone else is able to respond with more helpful information.
Hugs,
Karyn

Re: medicine side effect
Thx so much Karyn
You understand exactly what Im talking about..
Pain is horrible enough but when the medicine thats supposed to relieve it makes things worse with another painful symptom, it's just too much! Im so sorry you are dealing with pain also!
I tolerated a strong opiod for 7 mos, but it barely did a thing for my pain and Ive had to pro-catively battle constipation, sonow Im tirtrating off it..
Thats why I was hoping this new medicine (non narcotic) would help with my neuropathic pain. I hate the idea of opiods (unless they take awayt the pain)
As I go down on the opiod I feel more pain ,so it was helping somewhat, just not enough to allow me to function normally. I need to put in a med to replace it.
One doc did some kind of blood test on me and told me that it takes my body longer to "process out" some meds out of my system... it just holds on to the med longer.. Im not sure how valid it was, but it was pretty expensive.. I need to get a copy of the meds that supposedly do this to me.. I wonder if anyone has heard of this test? This doc was a respected rheumatologist, but was a bit eccentric.. so who knows!
If anyone has problems urinating as a side effect could you tell how you handled it? I need to give this medicine a chance the urinary symptoms are too much..(a catch 22 thing)
Karyn
Thanks so much and I hope you are feeling well.
Hugs
