Does anyone use Relistor injections to help manage opiod induced constipation? I use stimulant laxatives like Dulcolax in order to keep things moving while I am on narcotic pain meds. but lately am finding that I still feel bound up even tho I am having a bowel movments regularly. I use miralax as well quite often and it keep things nice and soft (sorry for graphic) but you need the stimulants, when on opions
The pain mgmt office I use gave me a Relistor script which I filled. But Im reluctant to ge invovled with injected meds . Im keeping it a backup laxative just in case..
The docs office sent me home with the rx . The medicine includes directions on how to do it but I wish the nurse could have demonstrated how to inject it. (You only use it when you need it, not pro-atively as one would use oral laxatives.
The reviews I read on other health boards about Relistor scared me a bit and mentioned that you must be careful not to inject the med too fast...bad or sick reactions could occur. They also cautioned you on various things which weren't mentioned in the drug literature or by my docs office. One of the reviewer was an RN who knew how inject most effectively.
Relistor is a relatively new med for pain patients... in the past it was used mainly for terminally ill cancer patients and now has been found to be very effective for chronic pain patients.
The docs office acted like it was no big deal and now used by several of their patients. My hubby would inject it and we are a bit squeamish. I am also quite thin due to pain issue so i don't have much fatty tissue in my abs or thighs or arms etc in which to inject.
I am tirtrating slowly off my opiod med as it didn't really help,
and weirdly the constipation issues seemed to have gotten worse as described above .(this could also be due to my anxiety over the whole situation, and the uncontrolled pain.
Hopefully tho I will soon be much lower on the opiod med and the bowel issues should lessen, God willing
Has anyone here used Relistor injections .. how did it go?
Thx for any info!
