At wits end

Post by bward0001 »

DX is LT Pudendal Syndrone with Piriformis level focus of nerve irritation. Surgery recommended to remove Piriformas muscle. However after four years of pain and 3 spinal surgeries for incorrect DX, I have lost my six figure job because I was on disibility so long, Paying $1400 for Cobra and supplementing my disibility income and medical bills, I have spent all of my $120k in savings. My doctor charges a lot more than my insurance company will pay and asks for the money up front (the doctor deserves to get paid more due to his years of research into PN and its DX and TX). I don't have the money for surgery and the pain continus to get worse. I only leave my zero gravity chair to go to doctor appts, I even sleep in it now as I can not lay flat. I haven't shared a bed with my wife in over two years.
I don't know what to do next, does anyone know a doctor that takes insurance (UHC) for the surgery?

So sorry to hear about your on going difficulties,
I am British but the surgeons I know of for piriformis surgery are Dr Hal Martin (Oklahoma) http://www.arthroscopyjournal.org/artic ... 0/abstract http://www.drhalmartin.com/
Dr Byrd http://www.nashvillesportsmedicine.com/ ... formis.pdf
Dr. Rick Sasso of the Indiana Spine Center in Carmel Indiana,
Dr N Barbero http://neurosurgery.ucsf.edu/tl_files/N ... rogram.pdf
Dr Chambi http://drisraelchambi.webs.com/
Dr Filler http://www.nervemed.com/about/dr-aaron-g-filler-md-phd
I know Dr Filler does not take insurance, can't help with others.

List from Yahoo piriformis group in attachments
Hope this helps
Take care,
Helen

Hello B,

I'm sorry this has messed up your life so much. I would be interested to hear more of your story -- how your pain started, where your symptoms are, etc. Are they more like piriformis syndrome with sciatic-type pain or more pudendal-type pain?

I don't know who your doctor is but your diagnosis sounds like the type of diagnosis Dr. Filler sometimes gives. Unfortunately, we've not heard of many success stories from Dr. Filler surgeries. Maybe you would like to get a second opinion on your diagnosis before having your muscle removed. Have you had the opportunity to see a physical therapist who is trained to treat people with pudendal neuralgia?

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
