Hi all,
I'm relatively new to this site. I hope I'm in the right place. I hate exercising, probably because I hate to sweat. After reading on here I found lifestyle changes says you can walk or swim. I have been walking in the pool. The first 2 days were fine, yesterday after the 3rd day, I was awakened during the night with horrible pains in my hip and sciatica. Can anyone tell me if it's bad to walk in the pool? I also have a resistance system in my pool, but thought that might be too strenuous, at least to start with. HELP

Hi Lindsay
Water walking is often fine with most people but maybe you have some other pelvic problems going on, either because of or, as well as, the PN?
It may be that you just did too much at once?? I think unfortunately that's it's a little bit of trial and error, probably not what you want to hear but there are so many different pathologies. It may not have been the walking, maybe when you turned or twisted? who knows tbh.
I think there are a couple of big No no's, like frog leg kick and I guess overdoing anything. As you say walking is usually ok but not for me for instance.
Try to take it easier because the last thing you want to do is put yourself off. You could try a float between the legs for a bit and just do arm stroke?
Well done for the effort and not giving in
Take care,
Helen

My doc advises against exercising on consecutive days and that, if you can do it, three days of aerobic conditioning is optimal for increasing the body's pain resistance.

Thanks to both of you for your input! I'll take it slower and only try every other day. I should have known it might not work. The only exercise I can find where I don't sweat.

That is the only exercise I can do because I have a problem with my feet as well as PNE. I still have to wear Tevas in the pool when I walk; I swim with them also.

Hi Ray,
I bought water shoes to try to keep my feet from getting even rougher than they are.
Thanks for the advice.
