acetyl l carnitine??

Post by ilovebuddy »

Has anyone tried acetyl l carnitine for PN? It has shown to help nerve regeneration and diabetic neuropathic pain. Does anyone know anything about this regarding PN, or other nerve disorders???

I just started taking n acetyl l carnitine (along with Lipoic Acid) for PN last week. I guess it's too soon to notice any results, but too be honest I'm not really expecting it to function like a magic pill. My philosophy is just to make sure the body has all the nutrition it needs for nerve and muscle repair, and acetyl l carnitine forms part of that foundation. It's expensive though...
Pain started Aug 2008 after prolonged sitting.
Referal to Dr Natasha Curran Nov 2008.
First Nerve Block Jan 2009.
Second Nerve Block Feb 2009.
Physiotherapy Feb 2009.
Started practicing sitting four times a day with the amount being increased by 10% each week:-
Feb 2009: 5 seconds x 4
Nov 2009: 1 minute x 4
Dec 2010: 1 hour x 4
July 2011: 3 hours x 4 (cured)
Had relapse in March 2012.
Sitting normally again October 2013. No pudendal pain, but some lingering muscle tightness.

I took carnitine for about 6 months, but found no difference really.

Something else I tried was Astaxanthin, better results.
Supposed to be good for delivering powerful antioxidants to brain and nervous system.
Chronic Pain pudendal area for 3 years, after a hard jolt to right side.
18 months later discovered sprained/fused sacro-illiac injury. Told to 'live with it' then saw this forum October 2011 = symptoms matched. Attempting to get this investigated in the face of lack of skilled docs in New Zealand.
Been told I have IC Dec 2011
FINALLY - 3T MRI in Christchurch 5th May 2012 - Pudendal nerve block, unguided 8th June 2012 - still waiting on results and progress from these.

What type of results did you get with Astaxanthin? Are you sure it was the Astaxanthin that helped?
