Hi,
I am a 25 year old man who have had pain in my perineum for about 5 years now.
I have been to many doctors in my country (norway), but it seems like no one can pin point what the problem is.
I have taken a lot of MRI pictures, but none off them have shown any findings to what would cause the pain I have.
The last doc I have been seeing, was pretty sure it was PNE, but when the MRI turned out to be negative for PNE, he didn't know what to do to help me.
It started roughly 5 years ago, when I got a feeling that something wasn't right down there. Since then it have progressively been worse.
The main symptom is that the muscles around my anus, perineum and the underside of the penis is super tight. It feels like the muscles
are in some kind of constant contraction or cramp. And they are continuing to get tighter and tighter all the time.
To explain the feeling and pain, it is just like someone have taken a real hard grip around
every thing down there to never let go. It tend to be more painful at the left side.
I also have some tension in my left buttock and hamstrings.
Additional information is that I have had a lot of back-pain due to much golf, I have also been hospitalised with my bowel movments pain, and I think I have bad-posture.
I have been to a osteopath, who tried to loosen up the pelvic floor muscles. I have tried different type of pills, both oral and anal without any luck. (anti-inflammatory,vival, blood pressure tablets (alpha-blockers).)
I try to sit on a ring or u-cushion when I sit down, but it hasn't been given any release.
I feel like this thing is preventing me from living my life, and I often feel depressed and I rather stay at home than spending time with friends, because of it.
I hope there is someone here who have some idea of what this is and/or some treatment options or doctors in they can recommend.

Ho golfi,
There are quite a few people who will get a negative MRI result and still have PN/PNE. It needs a clinical examination by some one who knows about the problem to properly diagnose it. Have you had a look on the home pages on here? There is a list of symptoms that you could go through and tick off as you go if they match up, it could give you a clearer idea about your problem.
There is also a list of doctors and specialists for PN but I don't think there are any in your country. . . .yet? Although there are quite a few in Europe.
There are only a couple of people that I can think of who have posted on here from Northern Europe, hopefully they can give you some good advice about who to see locally.
Glad you have found the forum.
Take care,
Helen
