Rubber Snap Sound / Pop

I've noticed that sometimes when bending over to touch my toes, as I come back up I hear a popping sound that seems to originate deep inside the middle of the right buttock (I have unilateral PN on the right side). It sounds a bit like a knuckle crack or a rubber snap, and just before it snaps I can somewhere sense a kind of tension in the region but can't pinpoint it. I don't know what it is, or why it's popping. Muscle, ligament, nerve?

Strangely, about two hours after hearing this pop, my buttock and PN tends to feel a little inflamed; the more I make it pop, the more inflamed it becomes later.

Not only that, but the more the area becomes inflamed, the more chance I have of hearing the pop sound - leading to a kind of vicious cycle. However I've noticed that when I gently press down on the area while doing the stretch, I can prevent it from popping...

Anyone have this, or know what it is?

Skyblue, I've not experienced this but it sounds like you are on the right track in thinking that it is a mechanical issue. Maybe a PT could help you sort it out?

The stretches I'm doing at the moment generally seem to make it worse, but yes I think it's worth getting some extra PT advice. Really, I'd like to "see" just exactly what's going on down there. Everything I've heard about MRI tends to suggest it reveals very little though.

That's sometimes the case with MRI skyblue, but a negative scan doesn't mean there is no PN it's just not always visible with the imaging available.
have a look at this thread http://www.pudendalhope.info/forum/view ... =17&t=3176 it may help with the 'pop' question, if only to rule what we were on about out :)
It's difficult to say which bit is causing problems as it's all so complicated and everyone is different.
Take care,
