Does anybody have any ideas on what leg exercises and stretches I can do on my own to loosen up any mucsles? At least until my consult with Dr. Hibner.
thanks
Jim

Jim, we are each a bit different so it might be a good idea to get input from a physical therapist trained to treat people with PNE. It might be helpful to think of the general principals involved. Think of your nerve possibly being encased in scar tissue or compresses between two ligaments in the pelvis and think of what stretches could cause a stretch injury to the nerve.

Hi Jim;
Four months after surgery, I started walking on a rail trail, flat,. At first just a 25 foot walk almost killed me. I'm now doing about a quarter mile. I try to take a few more feet each time. It really has helped my bad leg. My PA said that after surgery, laying in bed for so long, the leg was beginning to atrophy. Up here in very Northern VT it is hard to get out daily and I find if I miss a few days, I go backward. If lived near a mall, I would join all the other little old people!! At this point the 90 year olds would beat me but hey, I'm moving and that's a good thing.
In your case, I don't know if you've had the surgery or not so I would suggest asking your PN doc and your PT person. It's always best to check things out with the pros. Granted I don't always do that but walking seems to be okay whenever I read stuff.
Lots of luck to you;
Doreen

Quilter, thanks for the advice. It seems I am reaching the tipping point for lower extremity pain. I do some stretch and I walk when I can. Prolonged standing seems to be taking a toll on me and I just want to collapse when I get home from work. The good news is I have a consult with Hibner on 3 May and it seems that PT will also be in my future.

Jim;
The best PN PT is Loretta, Dr. Hibners person. If you could see her, she would guide you PT wherever you live. I had a PN PT and she was a dream but she still didn't have Lorettta's skills. Nancy was just learning about PN, but oh did she try.
We are now in the process of moving to TN or possibly NC, so I will have to start all over again looking for docs to try and learn any part of PN YUK 100 times over!!
Stay positive. I'll be out of touch for a few days, but I will always answer you.
Oh, now don't laugh, BUT if you have access to a sew ing machine, stop laughing!!, the foot pedal is a great gentle tool to work your leg.
My best to ya Jim
