Hello,

I'm just curious to hear from the more "seasoned" PN patients what their take on neural cross talk is.

I have been getting these electric zaps up the middle of my buttocks. Does this relate to the PUDENDAL or the SCIATIC or could this all be just the cross talk? I have a suspected left side entrapment so why these shocks on both sides?

I have left sided damage to the pudendal nerve - we know this because when I woke up after pelvic reconstruction surgery, I had a big numb area on the left side with a very clear delineating edge down the centre. Basically the whole of the left sided area innervated by the pudendal nerve was numb, when the feeling came back over the next few weeks, it came back as pain.

I now get pain on both sides - sometimes it is just on the left, sometimes just on the right, sometimes both sides at the same time. I've been told that my right sided pain is due to cross-talk between the nerves.

My 'electric zaps' - good description, A's mummy! - tend to go down the inside of the leg to the ankle, usually, although I do sometimes get them as you describe in the buttocks, but they feel as if they are running down towards the leg rather than up. I don't think I've ever had zaps on both sides at the same time, though.

Cross talk can happen pretty much whenever and where ever it wants.
Some nerves may be entrapped or damaged and the pain will radiate (cross talk) to other nerves in the body.

For me it took a couple years to develop.
I had both Pudendal entrapments and a left obturator entrapment.
Cross talk made my entire legs go numb and I would fall. Other times it would feel like the bones in my legs were covered in spikes and they were spinning around all day.
It seems you have had pelvic issues for a few years so cross talk could be one of your symptoms.
I'm not a medical person so I have no idea how to prove it, but it is a definite possibility.
