So far I tried a round red rubbery donut (no help! perhaps harmed some!) and an underwhelming square cushion. My physical therapist asked me yesterday to try and get a coccyx cushion and orient it the other way around so that the hole is under the genitals. I'm way interested in new suggestions about this. I've gone to a standing workstation at work. At home I stick on a stack of blankets--trick I learned from restorative yoga. The car is my biggest posture problem. I alleviated this somewhat by leaning the seat pretty far back. Looks silly but it's helpful.

I posted two suggestions on two other threads; "make your own cushion" and "padded toilet set raiser". I've tried the coccyx cushions but they are wedges that kill my spine; bought a foam pad to cut out a U shape myself but it's too hard and too high so am waiting for the toilet raiser to arrive. At home i can sit in an armchair with two lengths of memory foam under my legs but desperately want something for the car so I can drive again.

Yeah the car is by far the worst for me--really wish I had something for that.

Have you tried using an ice gel pack in the cutout part of a cushion? This is the only way I can drive in relative comfort. I take a spare frozen pack in a cooler so that when one has unfrozen I will have a cold one for the journey home. Fortunately I live in a warm climate.

Having suffered for going on 8 years I have tried everything. The best result is with a Roho cushion. They are primarily designed for wheelchair users. I had mine custom made with a space in the middle about 2 cells by 4 cells wide. They are expensive but made last. They are made in different depths so I recommend te 4". The concept is unique but genious as they are virtical fingers of air made of very soft rubber. You can inflate to your comfort level and it will change your life. Here is teir website.

I have no connection so this is not s sales tool. It helped me and I know itwill help you. By the way te VA provides mine.

To be honest, my best cushion was suggested by Dr. Antolak in a phone consultation. (See
http://www.perineology.com/files/antolak-athens2006.pdf). Basically all it is is a gardener's kneeling pad ($10 at Lowes) with a rectangle cut out of it so the butt, perineum, and genitals are suspended. The foam material was soft enough I didn't get a sore behind, but stiff enough that I remained suspended. Most of my problems with other pads occurred because the material compressed so much I didn't get much pressure relief where I needed it. For me, low-tech was the best. Hope it helps.

Hi,
Does anyone have a cushion they like for anal pain? I find that any cushion I currently have doesn't work as whatever part of me touches the surface causes the anal area to makes contact with the seat or is pushed on, and this causes throbbing.
Any ideas for something that would help me to sit even for short time?
Thx!

I've since learned from a very good specialist (Dr. Echenberg) about the waffle cushion and that's been amazing. His waiting room is full of them. Works for PNE and PFMD.

The best part is that you can inflate or deflate depending on how it's meeting your needs. Dr. Echenberg recommends about 60% inflated.
