Dr. Dellon
Dr. Dellon
Has anyone seen Dr. Dellon for dorsal nerve issues? I am interested in how he treats it etc. I saw Dr. Hibner last November and he wants to start w/ dorsal nerve injections but his office has been very difficult to deal with as in scheduling and helping with insurance...and they are just not the nicest people on the phone. It seems as if I am inconveniencing them. Dr. Hibner/ Costellanos will begin doing this surgery soon, I guess they learned from Dr. Ashman. But wondering if Dr. Dellon is more versed in this area? I have been told he has worked with the dorsal nerve for many years. Any info would be helpful. Thanks.
Suffering for 11 years after running marathons and weight lifting. Diagnosed with PN by Dr. Antolak in 2006 and Dr. Weiss in 2010. Taking Cymbalta, Gabapentin and Baclofin. Just made an appointment to see Dr. Hibner for MRI and consultation for surgery, can't get me in until Dec.
Re: Dr. Dellon
I have not had surgery with Dr. Dellon so others will need to post their experience. Last I knew Dr. Hibner had still not done any dorsal decompression surgeries and learned the technique from Dr. Aszmann about 1.5 years ago. Dr. Aszmann developed the technique when he was training with Dr. Dellon so as far as experience with dorsal decompression surgeries those are the two. Some individuals have gone to Dr. Aszmann even though it meant travel because it was cheaper. As far as Dr. Hibner's office staff, I have had a very good experience with them even though more recently I have needed to be more tenacious about getting my next appointment. For me, I have so few options of where I can the treatments that work for me, ie aggressive botox to pelvic floor and hopes of continued Ketamine treatment in the future, that I would be willing to put up with about anything.

Re: Dr. Dellon
I had bilateral decompression surgery on my dorsal nerve and my perineal branches too. I had surgery at the end of September 2011. I believe Dr. Dellon is the most experienced with this kind of surgery. His fees are quite high but he is a very good surgeon, his manner is very good and he has been excellent about post-surgical follow-up. He writes to me regularly to see how I am doing and he offers me reassurance and encouragement. I paid $30,000 for my surgery. My insurance has covered $4,000 to date, but I am still pursuing an appeal.
Dr. Dellon removed fibrous tissue that had been entrapping my nerve and partially obstructing my pudendal artery. The blood flow to my penis improved immediately. The nerve healing has been occurring slowly but steadily. I had been taking 4800 mg of Gabapentin and 60 mg of Cymbalta per day. I am now down to 600 mg of Gabapentin and 30 mg of Cymbalta. I am still observing significant activity restrictions (very little sitting, very light exercise, etc.) but things seem to be improving. I would say that if you can afford it, you should go see Dr. Dellon. I am so glad that I chose to have surgery with him. Feel free to PM me if you have questions.

Biker George, glad to hear you are feeling some relief. Smitzel ,be aware that Dr. Dellon's results have been mixed to put it mildly. Ezer,Lottanerve, and others found no relief with him and his fees are quite high as noted above. I believe they were included as success stories in his book as well.
Mild to moderate PN for 5 plus years, pain controlled by lyrica and opiates.
Nerve block (unguided) 9/10 Dr. Jerome Weiss - sciatica for 5 months but got numb in painful perineal/scrotal area - he diagnosed entrapment - but no more cortisone for me
Potter MRI 5/11 - rt STL entrapment of PN at Alcocks
Consult with Dr. Hibner Feb. 2012
Bilateral inguinal hernias diagnosed by dynamic ultrasound - surgery on 6/20/13
Feeling a little better, a few more months will tell
