painful colonoscopies/sigmoidoscopies

Please advise if this applies to you. I'm trying to use my experience with painful scopes to help me diagnose my remaining pain symptoms.
The pain during my scopes was severe burning and cramping, reducing me to tears once, even with full sedation.

Please post even if your scopes were not painful while you had PN, as that would help me out too.

Thank you in advance!

Hi Lernica - I've had two of these now, one before and one after the mesh surgery that started the PN. I was a bit apprehensive about having one when I had PN, but it turned out to be ok. Uncomfortable yes, but not too bad really. I had sedation for the first, but not for the second.

I am sorry it was so painful for you.

Well, for me ... it was definitely the PN. It was one of my first sypmtoms to subside after the surgery. I was completely knocked out during the colonoscopy and while the result came back with no masses or cancer, SEVERE sigmoid spasm was recorded. I know "spasm" means clenched/contracted, but my signmoid colon would actually throb and the spasms were more clonic in nature (rapid alternating contractions and relaxation). Almost like it was vibrating. Quite a disturbing feeling! Frequently experienced debilitating electric shocks straight up the poop shoot, too. I haven't had any rectal bleeding since the surgery either, which used to be a common occurance.
Lernica, if I'm remembering correctly, you've had several of these scopes done. How come?

It's standard pre-op procedure for endometriosis patients with bowel symptoms. I've had five pelvic surgeries for endometriosis (yeah, lucky me). Because the last surgery was a hysterectomy, hopefully the endo is gone for good. You can see from my history why I'm very surgery-averse.
