Hello all. I had my first nerve block yesterday and was wondering how long I should expect to have to wait for noticeable results.
Thanks!

Hi Emmet,

How are you doing now?

Sorry, this answer is a bit late but the way nerve blocks typically work is that you get an anesthetic and a steroid injected. With the anesthetic you should have immediate pain relief or partial relief for a few hours if they hit the right spot and if it's the pudendal nerve that is causing your pain. Once the anesthetic wears off you might have a flare-up but then the steroid kicks in a few days later and hopefully will bring down the inflammation and give you some pain relief.

Have you had any noticeable effects from the block Emmet?
Take care,

Thanks for the responses Violet and Helen. It's hard for me to say whether I'm better or not. I guess if I am, it's not that dramatic an improvement. I'm due for my 2nd nerve block Dec. 6th. My first was just on the right side, which is the worse one. This time I'm getting injections on both sides. Hopefully I'll have more noticeable results.

Hoping everyone had a good Thanksgiving,

Emmet

Hi Emmet,
I just had one - bilateral - 5 days ago. I have more leg and abdomen burning pain than ever, but the pudendal nerve area is about at the same pain level for me as pre injection. I will say I was amazed at how painless the procedure was, but now if only it did some good!
I wish you the very best, and maybe having both sides done will be a boost for you.

take care,
Debbie

Hello all,
Had my second nerve block 2 weeks ago (bilateral). The nerve block numbed the pain for about an hour, and I thought I felt some improvement beginning about a week after. But 2 weeks out, I'm probably back to where I was at first, painwise. Having a third block in about 2 weeks. One thing that did happen when I received the second block was that my right hip lost strength. I'm not sure if it was weakness, numbness, or both. My doctor explained that he inadvertently "splashed" the hip adducting nerve with the anesthetic. He assured me that I just needed some time, and in fact it turned out not to be a big deal. The hip was back to full strength in about 2 hours. It was a bit strange while this effect lasted though. It felt like my right hip was made out of jello. Ah, never a dull moment. Anyway, just wanted to report back on what's happening.
Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday with family and friends.
All the best,
Emmet
