Steroids and Cataracts

Post by tjincolorado »

Hi, has anyone had this side effect of steroids?

I'm 45 and just had cataract surgery on my right eye last Thursday and will have the left one this Thursday. My opthamologist said it was a very specific type of cataract caused by oral and injected steroids. Over the last 4 years I've had more steroid injections than I can count for PNE and pelvic pain. I never knew that there would be so many side effects and definitely was never told about them.

I'm sorry to hear about your cataracts and I hope yours surgeries are successful. I never had any steroid injections so I don't have any answers for you. But thank you for warning us about the potential effects on sight. Other members have posted about nosebleeds and the like.

Probable cause: 3 difficult labors, 5 pelvic surgeries for endometriosis, and undiagnosed hip injuries. 60% better after 3 rounds of shockwave therapy in Cornwall, Ontario (Dec - Feb/12). 99% better after bilateral hip scopes for FAI and labral tears (April and July/12).
