Does anyone know the statistics of getting PN? Are we more likely to get struck by lightening or win the lottery? :D

Definitely more likely to get PN than either of those two!

Odds of winning the lottery here in the UK are something like 1 in 14 million, I do remember that one. Odds of being struck by lightning - depends whom you ask, but in general seem to be of the order of 1 in 20 million, in that the population of the UK is about 61 million and on average 3 people are struck by lightning each year.

How many people in the UK have PN, to estimate the chance of having it? - it has to be more than 3 each year (struck by lightning) and also more than 4.3 (61/14).

I've found an article by Dr Hibner saying that the general incidence has been estimated at 1 in 100,000 but that many practitioners feel that the actual number is much higher.

So I am sure you are more likely to develop PN that you are to be struck by lightning or to win the lottery.

Thankyou carolynm - it is early days, but at the moment PN is not really much of an issue for me. I am still getting occasional nerve zaps but not every day, and I do still have right sided pain which comes and goes. But all the left sided pain seems to have completely disappeared. :D :D :D

So the odds on getting PN AND getting struck by lightening must be minuscule PHEW!
Luckily my husband buys the lottery tickets and he doesn't have PN :D and doesn't stand under trees in storms much either.

So, the odds of somebody with PN getting struck by lightning WHILE checking their lotto tickets should be just about 'zip', right? ;)

:D :D :D The moral is don't check your ticket under a tree in a storm or if you HAVE to. get someone else to do it!

I think I'd rather get struck by lightning than have PN... And survive of course lol.
