How long with Cymbalta?
How long with Cymbalta?
I posted this in the newcomers section but then saw this forum so put it here. My dr. put me on 30mg of cymbalta for one week and then bumped it up to 60mgs for the second week. She said if after the second week, it did not work to stop taking it. This seems not quite long enough to me. I have taken two days extra over the 2 week mark now but I still have alot of stinging down there when i'm sitting and at night sometimes when I'm trying to fall asleep. I'm also on lyrica.

Re: How long with Cymbalta?
I thought I was told "up to a month" (I stopped taking it after a week due to side effects), but if your Doc explicitly told you to stop if no improvement in two weeks, that Trumps my fuzzy memory; maybe call the office about it though.
Have you seen any improvement? It's rare to get to a pain level of zero from meds. Mostly they are used to lower pain level, and success is often greatest on a med regimen that combines several meds. So you say that you still have symptoms but sadly that is expected. The question is more like, have you seen an improvement that outweighs any side effects or potential medication risks? If you are able to combine non-narcotic medications to lower your pain level, that is preferable to having to resort to narcotics and have to contend with such issues as tolerance, dependence, and withdrawl.

pelvic pain started 1985 age 14 interstitial cystitis. Refused medical care from age 17, did GREAT with self care for years.
2004 PN started gradually, disabled by 2009. Underlying cause SIJD & Tarlov cysts
improved with PT & meds: neurontin, valium, nortriptyline, propanolol. (off nortriptyline & propanolol now, yay!)
Tarlov cyst surgery with Dr. Frank Feigenbaum March 20, 2012.
Results have been excellent so far; but I won't know my final functional level for a couple of years.
