Swimming Epiphany

Today it took me 30 minutes to swim a very painful 250 yards. The good news: it was 100 yards more than 2 weeks ago - key to my success - swim 25 yards, rest and deep breathe to stop the muscle spasms in my legs and butt, gentle flutter kicks for 25 yards, no kicking for 50 yards and no pull buoy.

While resting between laps I realized how thankful I am that I can swim, that I feel pain in my legs and that my nervous system causes my muscles to spasms as there are those who do not have any legs, that are paralyzed or are deformed and so they can not swim and can not feel anything. So today, I am thankful for the pain in my legs and perineum as it reminds me that I have a functioning nervous system that allows me to swim.

LOVE IT. We become grateful for the small things in life, don't we?

nyt,
You have described the key to getting though challenges in life and that is finding the things that you are grateful for and focusing on them. Before I had my hip resurfaced in March 2011, I could barely walk and had sharp shooting pains in my right leg when I did. That problem is now completely gone. Whenever I start feeling sorry for myself over the sitting pain and the fact that I have had to give up ejaculating, I think about how easy it is for me to walk and I am grateful for that. Life is all about attitude.

Best Wishes,

Don

Hi NYT,
You never fail to impress me! My heartfelt congrats on your major accomplishment!!!!! :D Recovering from bilateral TG surgery and years of PN pain, I also get very excited about what I can do this month, that I couldn't do last month. I'm very hopeful for you about getting those muscle spasms in your legs under control.
With hugs and encouragement,
Karyn
