Hi,
I am new to this site (June 24th, 2011) and I went through 2 months of HELL in March and April of this year. After long periods of sitting in pain prior to the episode, my penis began to have a tingling sensation which progressed to numbness and PAIN. I, also, get a burning pain in the perineal area from my scrotum to my anus and at times the penis turned dark (I’m white). After 8 doctors, who had no idea, I began experimenting to find my own solution.
Good news is that I received a tremendous release form my pain after finding a pressure point about an inch and half down from my scrotum and one inch to the left. I researched and found that this spot is the location of the Perineal Nerve which lead me to this website. After applying pressure and message for about 30 minutes about 80% of my pain was relieved for about 2 hours. The penis numbness still persisted, but to a lesser degree. I practiced the massage and pressure point technic a few times a day for about 3 weeks and now the penis pain only comes back when I sit. I stand and walk A LOT to relieve the pain in general. When I do sit, I sit on a “U-shaped” cushion which disperses the weight away from the pelvic floor. These cushions can be found at many pharmacies. You can read about it on this website at
http://www.pudendalhope.org/node/45.
This lead me to investigate pressure points and I learn that there is much information to be found that is specific to the pelvic area for PNs. Search under the heading “Trigger Points.” They talk about this a little on the HOPE website at
http://www.pudendalhope.org/node/50. There are books written on “Trigger Point” release technics. One of which is “A Headache in my Pelvis” by Dr. Wise. I read it and it is useful for people who have the pain as a result of chronic pelvic area muscle clenching as a result of stress. They recommend techniques and exercising to first stop the muscle clenching habits and then to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. The authors, also, offer 6-day seminars/clinics once a month in Santa Rosa, California about an hour above San Francisco for about $4,000 which does not include food/lodging(NOTE: They do not take insurance as is the case with almost ALL Dr.s who treat PN.) Their website is
http://pelvicpainhelp.com/. There are videos on UTube that demonstrates the methods of how to search for possible pressure point releases.
Since my pressure point (Pain Trigger Point) is on my left side of my perineum, I stretch my left side of my perineum by putting left foot up on the seat of a chair and I lean to the right. I find this releases the muscle and the pain goes away for a while.
My hip appears to be rotated forward and higher on my right side which may be compressing the nerves on my left side. Body alleignment may be something for you to explore. I am going to go to a physical therapist in L.A. who specialize in the Male Pelvic Floor. He was among those listed on HOPE’s website on their HOME page under List of PTs. I am looking for someone who has a comprehensive approach to healing: nerves, connective tissue, muscles, and structural issues.
So to sum-up, I had numbness and PAIN and found a release through a trigger point and a stretching technic. My pain can be released and the numbness has been reduced about 90%. Regarding the referred pain, I experience it in my left leg muscles and in my two smallest toes and additionally in my abdomen. I believe it to be relatively common??? I’ll keep you informed on my Physical Therapy Section.
I thought my life was over, but I now see the possibility of continued improvement. This website, its resources, and most importantly its members seem to be my greatest source of hope.
I wish you well,
Shon
