Re: When in doubt: Osteopathy
PT manual therapy, which is a small subset of PT dealing with direct hands-on manipulation, is a modality which is similar to osteopathy as well, FYI to those looking for a practitioner who will use a hands-on, whole-body approach.
pelvic pain started 1985 age 14 interstitial cystitis. Refused medical care from age 17, did GREAT with self care for years.
2004 PN started gradually, disabled by 2009. Underlying cause SIJD & Tarlov cysts
improved with PT & meds: neurontin, valium, nortriptyline, propanolol. (off nortriptyline & propanolol now, yay!)
Tarlov cyst surgery with Dr. Frank Feigenbaum March 20, 2012.
Results have been excellent so far; but I won't know my final functional level for a couple of years.

Re: When in doubt: Osteopathy
I read the French forums and in France, it seems that PN patients are treated by "ostéopathes".
I really do not seem to find much difference with PT when addressing pelvic floor issues (except for the underlying philosophy) and you hear the same stories of people dragging their "ostéopathique" treatments for years without much benefit.

2002 PN pain started following a fall on a wet marble floor
2004 Headache in the pelvis clinic. Diagnosed with PNE by Drs. Jerome Weiss, Stephen Mann, and Rodney Anderson
2004-2007 PT, Botox, diagnosed with PNE by Dr. Sheldon Jordan
2010 MRN and 3T MRI showing PNE. Diagnosed with PNE by Dr. Aaron Filler. 2 failed PNE surgeries.
2011-2012 Horrific PN pain.
2013 Experimented with various Mind-body modalities
3/2014 Significantly better
11/2014 Cured. No pain whatsoever since

FYI = "For Your Information": I was trying to say that for your information, PT Manual Therapists do joint adjustments as do Osteopaths or Chiropractors, but using different approaches and techniques. It is not common knowledge that there is a subset of PT called Manual Therapy which is dedicated to joint adjustments, as most PT's work on muscles and other soft tissues.

Re: When in doubt: Osteopathy
Thanks for that , but when it comes to therapists regardless of title it is a lucky dip ,as i found ,what may work for one may not work for another , also depends on the tools in the therapists tool box ,as some get set in there ways .

Re: When in doubt: Osteopathy
Aussie-M Definitely, That is why it is a shame some people say they "tried PT", tried Osteopathy", or "tried Chiropractic", and give up on the idea of manual manipulation because one practitioner in any profession couldn't help them. The "tool box" of each individual practitioner varies greatly.
You almost never hear somebody say they "tried medical care", and never see another Doctor...they seem to understand if one Doctor could not help them, maybe another can. Not so for manipulative therapies. As someone who has been helped much more by manipulative therapies than by medical intervention, I find this to be sad.

Re: When in doubt: Osteopathy
Yeah Hermajesty i agree with you , i seen so many physical therapists before i found one that could help . That also applies to doctors as well ,the good thing is there is slow progress in the field of PNE /PN , I think because you have toooo many big ego's and there is such a variety of causes it is not that simple .
