Hi all,
I had a pain flare up a few days ago and took 100mg of immediate release Tramol at 3pm for the first time.I usually take Coedine. Anyway, after an hour it took all my pain away and I felt great, I even went for a 40 min walk, cleaned the house and felt full of energy like Id had 3 coffees. I went to bed at 11pm and didnt get to sleep till 3am!!Very unusual for me, I absolutely never get insomnia.Has anyone else had this effect from Tramol? The only other thing, it gave me a headache that lasted until the next day.Im going to gp today, to get Panadeine Forte, at least coedine makes me sleepy.I cant live with insomnia as I am wiped out the next day and have to work.
Also, am noticing my pain is more frequently triggered by urination now, particularly urinating in the night when I get up from bed then lie down again afterwards..I dread urinating, because I never know if it will start the pain or not.Somehow it triggers the nerve. And Ive had frequency of urination too, I do some, then have to go again...and again Im getting my urine checked for infection today just in case, and am on a low salicylate diet again just in case I have an irritated bladder again from food intolerance.[Ive had this before.]I know that the pudendal nerve can cause frequency of urination, pain triggered by urination and also pain in the urethra........thanks to this site.
Trying to be patient and survive with this till I see if physio will work.
God bless you all reading this, and may you all find the answer you need to relieve your pain.
Mirandamolly.

TRAMADOL CAUSED INSOMNIA!!!!!!!!!!!??????
52 years old, symptoms vulvar, vaginal and pelvic burning/pain starting in Jan 2011.Diagnosed Feb 2011 with PN by Prof Vanscaille Sydney.Physio didnt help me,70% improvement with osteopathy and self help.PN caused by unstable rotated pelvis/scaroiliac joint problems and piriformis muscle causing nerve to be irritated in between ligaments in buttock.
Re: TRAMADOL CAUSED INSOMNIA!!!!!!!!!!!??????
Are you taking any SSRIs? There could be an interaction with Tramadol which could make you agitated.
Athlete until pain started in 2001. Diagnosed with PN in Nov. 2010. Probable cause: 3 difficult labors, 5 pelvic surgeries for endometriosis, and undiagnosed hip injuries. 60% better after 3 rounds of shockwave therapy in Cornwall, Ontario (Dec - Feb/12). 99% better after bilateral hip scopes for FAI and labral tears (April and July/12). Pelvic pain life coach Lorraine Faendrich helped me overcome the mind/body connection to chronic pain: http://www.radiantlifedesign.com

Re: TRAMADOL CAUSED INSOMNIA!!!!!!!!!!!??????
Hmmmmm, Tramadol didn't cause insomnia for me, of course it didn't help the pain either. However the one time I took 100mg I felt completely hung over the next day. Didn't try that again.
Have been dealing with burning pain since Jan 2010.
No sitting since April 2010.
Seen the following dr's: DO, GYN, Dermatologist, Accupuncturist,
URO GYN (his RN is the one who suggested the pain could be PN), Neurologist
Had ECG and MRI both inconclusive, only the SSEP said Pudendal reaction was abnormal and they lost that test result.
Saw Dr. Castellanos April 6, 2011. Next steps, MRI and botox. Having PT while waiting.-Botox denied, appealing to Insurance company now.

Re: TRAMADOL CAUSED INSOMNIA!!!!!!!!!!!??????
Thanks Tracey, Lernica and Ezer.......saw my gp today, he said Tramadol can cause sleepiness or in some people give extra energy/ insomnia. He said try it again as maybe it was just the first dose, if it still gives me insomnia I can only take it in the mornings. He also said it takes longer to work than other pain killers, up to 1 hour. I have panadeine forte[30 mg coedine per tab] to take at night for pain.[but coedine and tramol react badly with each other, so 12 hours in between them]
If no results soon from physio will seriously consider Endep or Neurontin. or Lyrica
God, I hate this condition!!!Id much rather pain absolutely anywhere else in my body.
PN has officially killed my sex life too, I have unfortunately confirmed that sex causes a pain flare up the next day.
Luckily, my partner is very supportive, although it is always hard to fully understand someone elses pain.
Blessings to you all

I use to take Tramodal and I did not have any major side effects but only 50mg. I know what you mean concerning sex life, it is aweful for me. The pain during and afterwards is trauma. This condition is so ugly. I can't even get an appointment with a specialist which is crazy. I called Dr. Conway and he has taken off work for 2 days. Doesn't he know people like us need him!!! LOL
Re: TRAMADOL CAUSED INSOMNIA!!!!!!!!!!!??????
I notice that you describe your med as Tramol, which is presumably a trade name - is this perhaps tramadol combined with something else? I am wondering about this, because you mention that codeine and Tramol do not go well together, and there is no interaction at all between tramadol and codeine.
Anyway, the information leaflet for tramadol 50mg does mention sleep disorders, high spirits, and an increase in activity. These are all listed as 'rare'. I guess that's your insomnia!
By the way, I would strongly recommend that you don't take the maximum dose next time you try it - start with 50mg and take more if you need to. I've been taking this stuff for 2 years now, and it has been my best help - for me, it doesn't make the pain go away, but it does take it down a notch.

Good point. I see that Tradol is Tramadol in the following markets: Bangladesh, Ireland, Mexico, Singapore, and Venezuela.
There is a Tradol+ however which is what is commonly known as Ultracet (Tramadol+ Acetaminophen).

Re: TRAMADOL CAUSED INSOMNIA!!!!!!!!!!!??????
Thanks so much fellow PNers,
Yes, Tramal is Tramadol hydrochloride-nothing else.Must be the trade name in Australia. My dr may be wrong, but he said dont take Tramadol and coedine within 12 hrs of each other.I dont have the product leaflet inside the box, so thanks for the info about side effects....yep, sounds like a rare side effect that I had!!!Oh well, I enjoyed the increased energy!!Just not feeling exhausted the next day.I will definitely just try 50mg next time and wait an hour., before taking more.Weirdly, I have no pain during sex , but it flares it up the next morning/day.Im trying different variables to see if theres any "safe" way to have sex.I dont want to give it up completely unless I have to, because of the obvious impact on my relationship.I think orgasm does stir up the pain next day for me.Oh, the joys of having PN!!!!!!!!!!Im praying that this new physio Im seeing can fix me.
Im off on holiday to the Blue Mountains today for some bush walking.Praying of course no major flare up, but heat packs and pain killers packed in case.
God bless,
Mirandamolly.

Re: TRAMADOL CAUSED INSOMNIA!!!!!!!!!!!??????
I think your doctor may perhaps be thinking of tramadol as an opiate, which it really isn't. Or maybe it is because of some other meds you are on? I don't know. Anyway I have been prescribed codeine more than once, to be taken as a top-up for when the tramadol doesn't quite do enough. (I am not taking it anyway, coping with the constipation isn't worth the level of pain relief.) And there is definitely no interaction between the two meds.
Lots of us get delayed pain, there was a thread about this not so long ago - I know won't be able to find it though! But yes, what you describe, a flare for the next few days - that's very familiar, unfortunately.
Enjoy your walking!
