Best cushion for travel?

Can anyone recommend a good, thick, coccyx pain type cushion that’s easy to travel with? I'll attach a carrying strap if it doesn't have one. We’ll spend 4 weeks this summer in Europe with our kids & grandkids. I’ll be limited to one cushion for all purposes, instead of the variety in my car and RV. Living out of a suitcase and crossbody daypack the first 2 weeks (on a large canal boat in Holland). We will be away from the boat sightseeing at each mooring point. The following 2 weeks in Sweden we’ll have a rental car + hotels and family homes where it can be stashed if not needed.

Somebody should invent a coccyx version of the neck cushion I have for flights which inflates quickly when a button is pumped; it packs fairly compactly.

I need 3-4” thick and definitely not firm. Due to sacral more than pudendal pain, I cannot tolerate sitting on a hard surface and need soft-to-medium. My husband or son will carry it for me if needed. If safe I could maybe wear the pack on my back and attach the cushion to clips so it covers all the zippers. I’ve been ordering and returning most cushions as they are too firm, even when advertised as soft. Hope somebody here has new ideas for this purpose. Thank you!

Quilter,

I use the Twin Cheeks cushion by Cushion Your Assets when I drive. I use extra firm because it keeps my perineal area suspended, but it can be ordered in a variety of firmness levels. The sides velcro down so you can move them to whatever position suits you best. They also have two different thicknesses, if i remember correctly. This may work for sacral pain. I hope you enjoy your trip, it sounds wonderful!

You might want to check out the ComfiLife Gel Enhanced Seat Cushion. It’s one of the few travel-friendly ones that’s soft enough for sacral pain, but still keeps its shape. It’s about 2.8” thick but has that plush memory foam feel, not too firm, not too squishy. No built-in strap, but you can definitely attach one to the cover’s zipper loop or the handle

Thank you both for the info! I've never seen the Twin Cheeks cushion style and it looks interesting. I think the ComfiLife is one I recently tried out and returned as it was too firm, but will have to look up the purchase.

Years ago I was traveling for surgery 2 days later with Dr. Hibner and TSA had a fit about my cushion. It was fairly new and I didn't know that it had gel in the center of the foam. I had all the hospital pre-op stuff in my purse. It took 10 minutes of arguing with the agent and a supervisor or two for them to further scan it and let me catch my plane. They had insisted they must take it apart to examine the contents, which would leave me with no cushion for my trips and no way to get one quickly. Ever since then I make sure my cushion has no gel when flying. Has anyone else experienced this problem with TSA (or their equivalent in other countries)?
