Discomfort and numbness at the same time

Hello everyone,

Does it make sense to say that I have numbness and discomfort/pain in the same organ?

My penis is mostly numb but I do feel it some. To the extent I do feel it, it is not pleasurable. I feel tingling, pricking (no pun intended), and pressure sensations. The pressure sensation is increased by fluid intake, alcohol, sugar, and caffeine. The pressure sensations only slightly abate after urination

Yes, it makes sense -- just basing my answer on my own experience of discomfort and numbness at the same time. According to Cleveland Clinic, numbness can be either a partial or a complete loss of sensation. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/s ... 5-numbness
So if you have a partial loss of sensation, you could still have discomfort.

Violet,

Thanks for your response.

Have you heard of other men who have had such irritation after drinking fluid, alcohol, caffeine, etc.? I take one cup of coffee and my penis is hyper-agitated the rest of the day. I don't really feel anything in the bladder; it's all in the penis. It's so annoying.

Doctors seem so confused.

P.S.
I know it sounds easy to just quit caffeine but I am easily fatigued. Anyhow, I have it just from drinking water.

Hi Rimrock,

I don't recall other men saying that certain drinks such as alcohol, caffeine, etc. cause penile symptoms. I think those types of drinks causing irritation are typically associated with interstitial cystitis but that would be more bladder related. This article discusses the effects of caffeine on lower urinary tract symptoms. But it doesn't explain a mechanism.

The external bladder sphincter is innervated by the pudendal nerve, and it is at the base of the penis. So, maybe drinking liquids and generally having a full bladder could put pressure on that sphincter and irritate the pudendal nerve. However, that would be the perineal branch of the nerve and the penis is innervated by the dorsal branch. So, I'm not sure what the mechanism would be that causes the penis agitation.
