Thanks for the kind words, Helen. I will certainly keep everyone informed good or bad. NorthernSpy told me that it took a few months before he noticed a permanent difference. No sure things here but I've got my fingers crossed.
Mild to moderate PN for 5 plus years, pain controlled by lyrica and opiates.
Nerve block (unguided) 9/10 Dr. Jerome Weiss - sciatica for 5 months but got numb in painful perineal/scrotal area - he diagnosed entrapment - but no more cortisone for me
Potter MRI 5/11 - rt STL entrapment of PN at Alcocks
Consult with Dr. Hibner Feb. 2012
Bilateral inguinal hernias diagnosed by dynamic ultrasound - surgery on 6/20/13
Feeling a little better, a few more months will tell

Hi Donstore
I wanted to echo what Helen said.. Tenacity seems to be necessary to find answers for many of us especially in the face of docs who won;t go the extra mile when something doesn't fit the typical or more obvious protocol.
I so glad the 2nd specialist you saw at confirmed your hernia dx and scheduled your surgery.
I wish you all the best! Pls keep ups posted!

I am pursuing pain mgmt as its the most necessary thing for me right now, but am keeping hernia on the back burner as causal to due to the referral issues you and Northern Spy have made me aware of

To Rea, I agree with Don based on what Ive learned that hernia can caused referred pain, I have pain in the same areas as you, due to mis-advised nerve surgery (not the PN decompression surgery tho).. Before that my pain was only in sit bones.. I also have painful bladder issues but they are not typical, and could be from another source...
What state do you live in?
Northern Spy recommended a doc in Lansdale PA as a good resource to see for hidden hernias.

Its is something I may consider as well,
Good luck!
Kathy

Thanks for the help and information....If no doctor here will listen to me then I'll find someone out of state that will. My insurance does not require referrals.
Don, think your surgery was on the 20th. Hope all went well and pain free days are yours again.

My pain seems to be diminishing. Don't know if this will plateau or continue. I'm definitely better off than I was before.

Yay! That's great news Don. Hope this was the answer for you.

Please keep us posted from time to time. ;)

Best,

Violet
PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

All I can say now is that it's not as bad as it was before but it's still there that's for sure. Pain is aggravated by the same things as before that is lifting, sitting, and ejaculating. Things seem to be on a plateau for the last month or so. I am hopeful that my operation addressed the source of my nerve damage and that the nerve was damaged for so long that it will just take longer to heal. Or maybe it won't. Maybe my hernias were inconsequential and not the source of my problem. Or maybe they were just part of my problem. I will certainly post if there are any further substantial improvements.

Don: do you have Northern Spy's contact information or any written correspondence that lists his symptoms? I guess all of his posts on this subject were erased? Which is too bad if they had good information about Inguinal Hernia's in them.

Thanks.

This post pretty much summarizes pelvic pain as related to inguinal hernias:

Review this thread and you will have the info you need. His situation and symptoms were the same as everyones. In order to diagnose inguinal hernias, dynamic ultrasound (standing) would be your first step. You need to find a hernia specialist who trusts his fingers and who believes that small difficult to find inguinal hernias (occult) can cause referred pain and that pain caused by sitting that gets worse later in the day is a marker for inguinal hernia. My pain levels have definitely gone down substantially since ny operation and I am hopeful that my improvement will continue.
