Need to lose 30lb

Here is a place for social chats with special attention to support and non medical discussions. We need a place to chill out, where we can distract from our pain and enjoy lighter moments, share a joke or funny moment with others.

Yes, good idea Amanda, lets take it over to the social section, that's where it belongs. Other people ok with that? If we all keep posting then it will stay at the top of the list!

By the way, I have found a site online where you can keep track of your weight loss for free, if anyone is interested. It gives you a graph, and hopefully there will be a nice line sloping downwards soon for us all! The site is SkinnyR.com, I am playing around with it at the moment and it seems very straightforward. I like the idea of actually charting my weight loss, very motivating!

They also have this thing called Weight Blurr, if you do not want people to see your actual weight but only how much you are losing, then you can turn on Weight Blurr and it hides the actual weight. So that's in line with HM's excellent idea of starting at zero.

Talking about portion size, not finding that not so easy right now. I am so glad to be able to eat again, I really have to be careful not to overdo it. I am using a smaller plate, so a plateful of food is a smaller amount.

Edited to add: I told it that I wanted to add my weight in stones and lb, because that's how I think, and I seem to have got it wrong somewhere along the line, because it won't let me. Or maybe I am putting it in the wrong format. It seems to be entirely happy to let me put it just in pounds, though.

And it also gives me my BMI at the lower right corner, and tells me that I am overweight. I knew that!

Edited again to add: dates are in American format, with the month first. Took me a few moments to work that out - why is it telling me that it is the 6th of May? Ooops.

So that's it we are up and running, just not literally :) . This is just what I have needed girls, thanks.
I have a very old slendertone set Peaches, it's not a belt, ( patches that stick on) but operates on the same principle and can be adjusted from a very low level.
It definitely works in that the muscle(s) tighten between the electrodes for a few seconds then is released. If it is turned right up it can feel very weird.
I remember doing the ironing with them on my bum at full 'volume', the 'zap' always took me by surprise as it was fairly intense at that setting.
The only thing I would say is, if there is any suspected muscle involvement with your PN, it does induce a spasm to the targetted muscles, so may not be ideal.
Think I could get away with it on my stomach muscles but would def not do my bum now. It's one of those things that has ended up at the back of a cupboard somewhere, might dig it out and see if it still works.
Need batteries for my scales (have done for about a year +) and might even look at my wii again, thats in the cupboard too.
Take care all,
Helen

I have found how to enter weight in stones on SkinnyR - top right, edit my account, enter the weight just in stones, so 12 stone 7 is 12.5.

So am I going to have to re-learn my Junior High school lessons on converting LB to KG and learn, since i never knew, what stone is? Or are all you British ladies up for doing things in LB?
Quick poll on anyone who is participating: What is your total goal to lose? I need to lose 50 pounds and maybe 60, but I have not decided about the last 10, The lower I go the harder it is to maintain. I have the impression that I have more to lose than anybody else so I want to poll to see where to set my goal. If everyone else has less to lose, I'll just make my goal 50 but if anyone has 60 or more to lose, I'll up it to 60. Ladies?
BTW social section is fine to me, I'm neutral on that one.
pelvic pain started 1985 age 14 interstitial cystitis. Refused medical care from age 17, did GREAT with self care for years.
2004 PN started gradually, disabled by 2009. Underlying cause SIJD & Tarlov cysts
improved with PT & meds: neurontin, valium, nortriptyline, propanolol. (off nortriptyline & propanolol now, yay!)
Tarlov cyst surgery with Dr. Frank Feigenbaum March 20, 2012.
Results have been excellent so far; but I won't know my final functional level for a couple of years.

Will sit-ups mess with PN? I want to do crunches but afraid it may cause a flare. I am fine with us this to another board.

Eeek not kilos please, I can't think in SI units except in cooking and even then I still tend to convert grams back to ounces in my head.

In my little world - - people weights are in stones and pounds - a stone is 14 pounds by the way. If someone gives their weight in just pounds, I have to work out how much it is in stones before it means anything. For instance if someone says their weight is 177 pounds, that doesn't mean much to me at all. Heavier than me? Lighter? No idea. Could be either! But twelve stone 9, I know what that is. And it is the same thing.

We will all be talking about weight loss in pounds, though, won't we? And as we are going to be using your zero start, and our targets are all in pounds, it won't make any difference will it?

Missy, aren't sit-ups bad for your back? I remember something about that a while back, we were all supposed to do crunches instead. But maybe I am wrong. I really agree with you about crunches being a bit dodgy with PN, anything which tensions or puts pressure on the pelvic floor can't be good. Personally I wouldn't risk it. But then my abdominal muscles gave up a long time ago!

And HM, you just go with what you are comfortable with. You could have more than one target, after all (I know I have, I need smaller steps and my first landmark will be to get below 12 stone, that's 168 lb) and when you reach one, you can move on to the next one if you want to. I have an unfair head start, my target would have been 50 if I hadn't got ill. You may now all stand back and watch me start to gain weight instead of losing, now that I can eat again..... :?

I think to measure our weight in lbs is perfect, I was never good at stones and pounds and get totally confused with kilos.
I know I have at least 20lbs to lose, but could do with much more to be honest.
Im afraid that today i was not very compliant as i was out and had lunch out in a pub, i wanted to order just a simple salad but with the recent scares in Europe about ecoli etc, i veered towards something that was cooked..I never expected the huge portions that arrived.
Tomorrow I will stick to my own home grown salads and something much lighter.
The Ecoli thing is big here at the moment and I noticed that many salads that originate from almost anywhere in Europe are not being purchased the customers favouring local grown produce - good for local ecomony but not always good for deciding what to eat on the day!!!!

Roll on ladies ( we are not exclusively a ladies group though) and those men who wish to shed some pounds.
PNE started 2003 following Vaginal Hysterectomy, pelvic floor repair and right oophorectomy; eventually after many tests had BilateralTG surgery Nantes 2004; following this tried many other treatments including 7 day epidural, ketamin infusions to no avail; Trialed and was implanted with a Neurostimulator in 2007- Dr Van Buyten Belgium, this has enabled me to manage my pain much better.

I really do need to drop about 60-70 pounds. (Really more, but I haven't maintained that since before my 17yo was born. ) So HM I'm in this with you!! Have actually dropped 2 this week!! :) Not purposeful, just busy. So are we all going to use the website or just report in? Which is best?
Have been dealing with burning pain since Jan 2010.
No sitting since April 2010.
Seen the following dr's: DO, GYN, Dermatologist, Accupuncturist,
URO GYN (his RN is the one who suggested the pain could be PN), Neurologist
Had ECG and MRI both inconclusive, only the SSEP said Pudendal reaction was abnormal and they lost that test result.
Saw Dr. Castellanos April 6, 2011. Next steps, MRI and botox. Having PT while waiting.-Botox denied, appealing to Insurance company now. :(

Tracy if you will do 60, I will do it with you. I won't do 70, waaay too hard to maintain.
Idea: I can start another thread called "PN Weight loss club" that explains the basic rules / formula..stuff like start at 0, weigh in every Saturday or report in if you are using sizes / inches instead of a scale...each person who is participationg can make a post under it with their start date, goal, etc. Then instead of creating an endless thread, each Saturday we can EDIT our post to add the new date and what was achived that week. That way everyone can have a running tally of their progress, and new people can join later whenever they want just by reading the rules and adding themselves to the thread. Chatter about weight loss tips, etc can stay on this thread whereas the other would be all weekly updates. Do you ladies think that is a good idea which will work? if so i can set it up in this same "social" section.

I have been tracking on WW. I am on day 4 and getting used to eating less. I am a size 16 and will post when I am a size 14. I am making a life style change so I decided not to weight myself. I am so encouraged already that everyone is excited.
