I can verify the "lost word" pre-Alzheimer side effects of Lyrica. The good news is that all of the mental fuzziness, dizziness, etc. caused by Lyrica go away completely once it's out of your system. Unfortunately, after trying opioids, I may be going back to gabapentin (cheaper) or Lyrica, because of my increasing tolerance....

Rick: I was on 800 mg. of Lyrica a day for 1.5 years and the MD added 60 mg. Cymbalta. I was fuzzy headed on the Lyrica, but noticed no increase in this side effect when the Cymbalta was added.

I too noticed a weird taste in my mouth when I was weaned off Lyrica.

Hi

I think we all know that medications have different effects on different people. Neurontin, gabapentin, and lyrica are all in the same family but they have a definite difference on me. Lyrica is the latest and most powerful drug in this family and I am not able to tolerate it. My mind spins and I have no idea what I am doing. I do take gabapentin however, initially because it put me to sleep with no side effects so I take it at night before bedtime and again if I wake up. I don't have any problems this way and get a better nights sleep while still reaping the benefits of the drug the next day. Personally, I wouldn't take lyrica if my live depended on it as it makes me feel like a zombie. Cymbalta works on nerve pain and it helps me with no side effects.

In 2006 or 2007 I was put on Amitriptyline for electric shocks and burning in my vagina. I was on 70 mg when o in December of 2009 i started noticing twitting (my shoulders would fly up in the air, or my hand would be thrown back off the key board) and then one morning (march 2010) I woke up with a full blown case of horrifying dystonia (uncontrollable muscles movements) . You hear about uncontrollable muscle movements on the TV commercials, when they advertise these drugs but I had no idea how sever it could be. I was in the hospital and they took me off the drug. Every muscle was jerking from my feet to my face every second.. non stop. Even when I came off the drug ...it too 6-9 months to gradually stop. My face even vibrated under the skin rapidly left to right and back again. I was terrified ...so if you can get off the old drugs and on lexapro you may have less of a chance of this happening.

As for the lyerica ...I am on 75mg 3 times a day (225mg a day) )and can't remember a thing. If I make a to -do list it just sits there. I have talked to others and there seems to be a extreme "disconnect " both emotionally and mentally with this drug. I talked to two men with nerve damage that said they took 75mg a day and had to come off because they felt to clouded. On said he would stop in the middle of a sentence and not know what he was saying. I struggle for words and if watching TV and they go to a commercial ..I will forget what I was watching. I can not wait till none of us have to take these drugs. But for now i would not be here without them.

I am on cymbalta 90 mg. Also 3000 gabapentine, good grief I thought I was about ready for the home as I am experiencing all of the same symptoms. My sciatic pain is now worse than the pudendal pain and that is bad enough. There are times I can sit for an hour and other times not for a minute. I have had 3 decompression surgeries , One with Dr. Antalok. Two with Dr. Israel Chambi. I think maybe just massive amounts of scar tissue.? Dr Chambi suggested an mri of my buttocks. ????. I gave that written message to my gp to put in my files. Would someone out there see an advantage to that.?
I went in to see my gp a month ago and said"I do not have any fight left in me." She sent me to the psychiatrist. I had taken myself off of oxycontin a year ago. He suggested I go back on.Ihad felt so guilty taking it because of family members remarks. He told me "their hang up your pain. He also stated that it isn't about the drugs it is about you and your pain. So I am back on it. My gp said she would increase the dosage if need be, I do not think increasing it would make a difference. I have this horribe pain in my left bum. Honestly I dont know if it is sciatic or not, must be because my whole leg is so vety painful. Oh, well, tomorrow is another day.
