I was advised to re-start the amitriptyline forthwith, HM, and to try neurontin as well. In the meantime, a rebellion of body chemistry had set in (the nerve pain had been out of control for months) and I couldn't tolerate either drug. I went to bed for six weeks. The burning in the hands started to ease during this period. I don't believe I had central sensitization at that time; rather the nerve, which had been compromised for many years and was not in good shape at the time of surgery, was (and still is) subject to severe flares. (I guess I'm one of the small percentage of people who get worse after surgery.) The use of beta blockers to prevent CS is interesting. I've wondered if the fact that I take sotolol for a heart irregularity has been responsible for my not developing CS. All the best with placating your hands!
