Thank you kindly for the replies.
I am still waiting to 1) begin pelvic floor therapy with a nearby therapist and 2) have my first appointment at the Mt. Sinai pain clinic with Dr. Gordon and Dr. Peng.
The only update is that I had bloodwork done to test for Hepatitis and Lyme Disease: both results are negative.

Kinec,
I too am a patient of Dr. Gordon's. I had to wait eight months to see him. In the meantime, icing your rectum could provide you with instant relief. I do this about three times a day. Try it if you haven't already!

The weight times are ridiculous

I had a severe muscle injury (on top of the usual PN pain) and the doc couldn't figure out what it was untill it was diagnosed properly by
a top physical therapist. I was in miserable condition but after about 6 months of PT my muscle injury (Iliopsoas) improved by about 80 percent,
so I think physical therapists deserve more credit!
But....things were going so well with PT I had increased each excercise so as to get somewhat of a 'workout' and NOW I seem to have tweaked the pudendal nerve and currently suffering with extreme rectal pain. So ditto with the person who mentioned "take-it-easy" or be careful becuase I may have stretched the nerve [which wouldn't be the first time] I am sure this setback-and I've had many-will ease up after a while.
BTW...I saw a chiropractor the other day and for the first time had my entire spinal chord x-rayed. Tomarrow morning I'll be meeting with him to see the results. I'm very curious and ..hmm..he also claims to be an expert on nerves-so what the heck. I'll keep you posted!
All the best

Hi there
Just reading this newbie post and symptoms are very similar to mine which were primarily rectal nerve .... reading this brings a lot back.
I agree with Violet, beware too much physio. For me the surgery has removed rectal issues completely. It is my belief that if the nerve is entrapped then there is only one way to fix it. I never hesitated when surgery became available on this side of the world.

Thanks very much for the replies! I appreciate the input.
I started PT a few weeks ago. I'm currently seeing the doctor once per week; we're doing both internal and external work. I also do the PT exercises that I was instructed to perform twice per day. Obviously it's too early to tell if the PT will help with the pain. I truly hope that surgery is not required. For what it's worth, the PT doctor thinks my muscles/nerves in my pelvic and surrounding regions are quite tight and years' worth of low back pain, straining on the toilet, etc. have caught up with me finally.

Hope it works for you! In a recent interview Dr Hibner did mention that if the onset of PN had a slow build up the nerve is possibly irritated rather than entrapped so you stand a great chance of PT working if that is the case. Keep us posted and good luck.
