I had surgery on my left side 13 months ago. Then I had surgery on my right side 4 months ago. It does take alot of time before you notice much improvement. I am still having pain quite often. I'm keeping my hopes up that it will get bettter in time.

Hi Lanie! And welcome to the forums. I'm glad to hear your update.
PNE as a result of childbirth, 2002. Treatment by the Houston team, with neurosurgery by Dr. Ansell in 2004. My left side ST and SS ligaments were found to be grown together, encasing the pudendal nerve.

I am cured. I hope you will be, too.

There are no medical answers on the forum. Your only hope is to go to a doctor. I was very happy with the Houston team, which has treated the most PNE patients (well over 400), more than any other US provider.

I have had severe burning in my clitoris with urination. It burns before my urine ever comes out and then it burns during and lingers for about an hour. The area gets really hot and I have to hold ice there. Sometimes I can go and it don't burn and an hour later it will. I have had this for 3 years and have been to numerous doctors all around my area with no help. Been misdiagnosed with IC, Vulvodynia,Ureathra syndrome and everything else you can think of. The only thing I can think of that may have caused this to start was a straddle injury to the front area urethra/clitoris area. Finally, I flew to California to see Dr, Aaron Filler nervemed.com and he did numerous injections and then the following day performed surgery. He went in on each side of my butt about a 1 inch incision. He cut both piriformis muscles to allow room for the nerve to run through, I had several nerve entrapments, ahsesions, and they nerve was growing in the muscle. My left side was worse than the right side but the right also had several entrapments. It has been 4 weeks tomorrow since surgery. I am just wondering if anyone else has had this symptom and how long it takes to get any relief. It is mainly severe burning when I urinate, but it even burns before I even pee. I had two cystocopy's and they both showed nothing. So I am hoping this was the culprit. I am so tired of living in pain. I am only 24 and I have had this for 3 years now.I would appreciate any advice anyone has! Thanks :) :D

Hello. I was wondering from you who did have the surgery how are you doing? How was the whole process for you? I was recommended by my doctor to have the surgery but I'm very scared. Some people told me that they feel permanently worse after having it. I have pain but my main problem is urgency/frequency and a really bad burning pressure like feeling. I'm having pains all over the place: my genitals, anus, but cheeks...

Any comment or advice would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I'd like to try to get pregnant and have a baby before the surgery.
Any advises??

Thank you!!!

Hi Michaela,

My surgery was successful but unfortunately for some it is not. In the majority of cases, surgery is successful in at least providing some improvement but if you are not in that majority it can be devastating.

One thing to consider if you are getting pregnant before surgery is the risk to the fetus if you are taking or might need any medication. I know of women who have had successful pregnancies after PNE surgery but they opted for a C-section.

Best wishes,

Violet M
PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
