Paclitaxel

Post by nyt »

I read the little excerpt below in the "Investor's Business Daily" Newspaper.

" The cancer drug paclitaxel has been shown to promote regeneration of injured nerve cells, according to scientists in the U.S. and Europe, who say it could treat spinal cord injuries and paralysis. The drug also inhibits the production of scar tissue that can be a barrier for severed nerve cells. Tests on injured lab mice showed that the drug improved their movement after just a few weeks. "

I need to do more research but sounds interesting.

I haven't done any reading about paclitaxel but I wouldn't jump on the band wagon yet. I'm sure it still needs a lot more research but just wanted this group to know there might be some options in the future. Since this is a cancer drug there are probably some side effects that might not be worth the risk. However, it might be something that should be mentioned to the PN dr.'s so they follow the research.

Just started to do some reading. Here is a link on side effects. Because it is a cancer drug it will have the same side effects as most cancer drugs, ie hair loss, decrease in white blood cells, vomiting, etc.

I just wanted to put this out to the group because I thought it was interesting not because I thought it should be something we should all start taking after surgery.
