Did your surgery by Dr Hibner help?

Post by bartland »

I would really like to hear peoples' stories who had the decompression surgery done by Dr Hibner. Did it work for you?

Background/context for my post:
I had a successful decompression surgery back in 2003 by Dr Ansell in Houston. Sadly after many years of PN being gone, it returned in Nov 2003 very badly and I have been disabled for the last year. After a year of nerve blocks and pelvic floor PT, PN is confirmed but nothing is getting rid of my pain so I am considering having the decompression surgery again. My fear is that I have scarring from the original surgery that may be causing my current PN...there was no post-op protocol back then to prevent such things.

Dr Hibner seems to have made a number of improvements on the original surgery approach that was done on me, developed by Dr Robert. (I think I was the 7th person to have the surgery in the usa)

So back to the original question:
If you had the decompression surgery done by Dr Hibner, did it work for you?

I had surgery with Dr. Ansel in 2003. It did not work. I became re-entrapped with scar tissue. in 2008, Dr. Hibner did the redo and again no pain relief and again re-entrapped by scar tissue. They both told me not to come back. Devastating!

RJR just posted an update on his surgery results with Hibner. viewtopic.php?t=11686

I have known quite a few people over the years who had successful surgeries from Dr. Hibner but unfortunately, there are no surgeons with a 100% success rate.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Hi Bartland,

So very sorry to hear about the return of your pain. I had surgery with Hibner six years ago, and it was successful. I still have periodic flares but they are infrequent and manageable. If I had to do it again, I would go back to him.

I had decompression surgery with Dr. Hibner a few years ago, and while it didn’t completely take away the pain, it made a noticeable difference for me. What stood out was how thorough he was, especially with post-op care—things like scar management and tailored rehab that weren’t really a focus when I’d had other treatments. Recovery wasn’t easy and took longer than I expected, but overall, I’m glad I went through with it because it gave me a better quality of life than I had before.
