Question about sling removal

Post by Eileen »

Hi,
My name is Eileen and I've been suffering with PN for about 5 years. I've tried Botox and nerve blocks and have been on pain management but it's gotten to a point that I can't continue just pain management. I've read many, many posts on here and I finally saw one of the doctors recommended here and found out that the sling I had put in is the first problem. I'm going to get it removed. I've seen some people get just the part that is accessible vaginally removed and some get the whole sling. Can anyone tell me the main difference as far as the surgery itself? recovery? I'm feeling like I have foreign body reaction to the sling but I can't prove that. If I could, that would mean the whole thing should come out. Thanks for any help.

Hi Eileen,

That's a tough decision to make. I'm sorry, I don't know much about the pros and cons either way - of partial or complete sling removal. If you feel like you are having a foreign body reaction, it seems like it would make sense to have it completely removed. What is the PN specialist recommending? Have they done very many of these procedures before, and if not, can they recommend a specialist who has?

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Hi Violet,
I can't prove I have foreign body reaction. It's just my gut. I was just wondering if anyone else on here had this happen but no one replied so I'm guessing it might be kind of rare.
I was wondering how many people have the whole thing removed versus partial removal. I have an upcoming appointment to discuss what to do with my doctor but was wondering about it from other people.
thanks,
Eileen

Hi Violet,
Just to update you- I spoke with my doctor (Dr. Conway) and he said he has had other patients that believe they have had foreign body reaction as well. When they take the whole thing out, they feel much better! So we are moving in that direction. There is not enough evidence to prove this happens unfortunately. Just thought you might find it interesting.

Hi Eileen,

Thanks for the information. I had not heard of that before so it's good to learn something new. What Dr. Conway told you sounds hopeful so that's a good sign. I'm sure you're not looking forward to another surgery though. Please let us know how it goes for you.

So perhaps you are correct about the full removal to work towards achieving that. I believe it if Dr.Conway can describe that she has observed good results in other individuals. If you’re feeling like there is definitely a FBR, then getting it all out may be the solution. Go

If you're feeling like there's still a foreign body reaction going on, removing everything could be the best option.
