Hello everyone. I am new to this group and have been reading posts and it helps to hear from others. I am a 50 year old female and have been very healthy up until 3 months ago when pain started.
I started with left lower back pain 3 months ago and went to PT which did not help. Pain started in groin snd left hip and CT scan of pelvis showed severe constipation. I thought pain would get better with a good bowel regimen, but the back pain and side pain has only worsened. I now have numbness and tingling in the buttocks region perineum when I sit and I lay flat it feels like there is a sharp shooting sensation next to the deep in the deep in the perineum, MRI of the L spine showed a very very mild Desloge at L5-S1. Went to the emergency room a couple of days ago because pain was waking me at night. It felt like my whole left pelvic floor was frozen and I couldn’t move it, and I wondered if anyone had ever experienced similar situation where the left pelvic floor feels frozen and numb in the middle of the night neurosurgeons think it is PN. I used to use the rowing machine for an hour a day and I’m wondering if this is what caused the problem. I also read that the pain should not wake you at night, but I was curious if anyone has had pain from the numbness and tingling that gets worse at night and wakes you up. Just starting this process of figuring out this pain and doctors started Lyrica and I’m hoping to get into a specialist to try to see if that helps. I also get left front groin pain and wondered if anyone experiences that too.
Help- possible PN?
Re: Help- possible PN?
Hi Tocojuju,
Welcome to the forum. Your symptoms sound a bit scary to experience. I don't remember hearing of those exact symptoms of feeling frozen, but some of your symptoms are similar to what some PN patients experience, such as the sharp, shooting, deep perineal pain. I can't remember for sure if my PN symptoms woke me up at night -- it's been almost 20 years ago -- but I do remember that I couldn't sleep due to the symptoms and my best recollection is that they woke me up. I don't believe there is a one-size-fits all for this disease. It can be very tricky to get an accurate diagnosis but if the neurosurgeons are suspecting PN, they probably know what they are talking about. There are some other nerves such as the genitofemoral that can cause similar symptoms, including groin pain. Do you have an appointment with the specialist yet?

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
