Hiya everyone...
I had my ganglion impar block yesterday morning and I have to say that it was so much worse than I thought it was going to be, I assumed there would be some pain but nothing like I experienced...anyways afterwards i was able to go home 20 mins later i didnt feel too bad just achy so i went and picked up my son from school....it was only a few hours after that the anesthetic must have began to wear off because the pain at the site of injection near coccyx was so sore I couldn't sit atall or even lay on my back.....to sleep I took some co codamol which helped but in the morning when I tried to turn in bed I really knew about it....feels like a horse has kicked me there!!! The pudendal pain has flared too much worse than before the block I'm getting anus pain and all along right pudendal nerve track and some buttock and leg pain.....so right now I'm super deflated I had hoped this would work even if it was a little that would have been something....to come off worse was my absolute nightmare.....so I guess my question to all u guys is these.
1) am I meant to have such bad pain at the site of injection??
2) will this flare last long and could it be just temporary whilst the steroid kicks in???
Really wishing I didnt go and get it done now.
I hope to have replies from you guys and I will keep posing to update you all on how the block progresses.
Clare from London.
Had ganglion impar yesterday....
Re: Had ganglion impar yesterday....
Hi Clare,
I haven't had a block at the ganglion impar (though my pain doctor tried to coax me into it many times), but I've had two pudendal blocks, and I had flares afterwards, although yours sounds much worse than mine. I would guess that the pain will subside soon. I've had steroid shots in other locations and had quite a bit of initial pain all day and it did go away the next day. The steroid is supposed to reduce inflammation, so it if it works as it's supposed to, you will eventually get some long-term relief. But, I don't know of many people who actually get long-term relief from pn from a steroid (at least with the traditional blocks), so it is possible that you won't get relief. Are you doing any better now?

Re: Had ganglion impar yesterday....
Hi April,
It's now nearly 48 hours after block and I cant say that I feel any better just yet...I'm waking up with pain which I never usually did it sort of progressed through the day and got worse till bedtime depending on what I did that day....the pain at injection site is still very much there too I felt the needle hitting my coccyx many times and I think he had a hard job getting it to stay in place from what I could hear and feel....I will keep updated but I must say this has put me off any further nerve blocks.
Clare.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Has the pain subsided now? I would call the the doctor's office to let them know about your reaction and to see what they recommend.

Re: Had ganglion impar yesterday....
I had two Ganglion Impar injections (I'm male). I'm a fairly big guy, and I'm not going to lie to you - they hurt like a bear (I do not tolerate injections well, but I thought these were particularly difficult).
The first one I had at 9 AM, and ... nothing. However, that night, I slept on the floor, on a wedge (with my legs and pelvis elevated), and woke up the next morning *entirely pain free*! The theory is that residual Lidocaine might have flowed upward during the night. Anyway, I was pain-free the next morning for about 5 hours, and it was awesome.
The second one wasn't as dramatic, but it certainly helped the next morning (I slept on a wedge again).
This was enough to convince my pain practice to refer me for a trial for an Intrathecal Pain Pump (see http://www.pudendalhope.info/forum/view ... =36&t=9828), and it worked *amazingly* well for several hours, enough so that I'm going to get a "permanent" one installed next week. Please do read that link.
In 10 years, I've had a total of 6 things that reduced the pain for several hours, and these were three of them.

That's great news! So what medication will the pump deliver?
