Surgery and sacrotuberous ligament
Surgery and sacrotuberous ligament
For those of you who had PNE surgery and had your sacrotuberous ligament replaced, do you still have ongoing pain? Do you have issues with your tailbone moving from one side to the other?
Re: Surgery and sacrotuberous ligament
No issues with me related to the STL repair. Bob
Cyclist till perineal pain onset R side (Apr'08). Dx with PN (Aug'09). Lyrica gave 30% pain reduction. Potter MRI (Oct'10) validated at surgery with Dr Hibner (Nov'10) - found nerve attached to scarred STL. Now sitting 10 hrs/day vs 1 hr/day pre-op. Surgery video = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FDwana6SQU
Deep neuropathic burning pain flares have been gone since surgery...Grateful to Dr Hibner.

Re: Surgery and sacrotuberous ligament
Does anyone know if there is an option to get the sacrotuberous ligament surgically reattached - if you had surgery prior to the point they started replacing it? Has anyone gone back in for this surgical procedure?

I don't know the answer to your question but you might find an article abstract interesting if you go to the following link on pubmed:

According to this study, the ST ligament heals itself, even if not repaired, and it heals thicker than before. I'm not sure from the article what type of division is made in the STL in the subjects who were followed in the study but it says they had the TG approach. Also, I'm not sure what the significance is of the ligament being thicker than before and whether it being thicker might cause the nerve to become re-entrapped.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
