Compound Cream is helping with pain

Post by Griff522 »

I was given a compound cream early on in my pain saga. It consists of amitriptyline 2%, baclofen 2%, gabapentin 5%, and lidocaine 5%. When I was first given this cream by my gynecologist, my pain was diffused burning pain in my vulva. When I would put this cream on my vulva it would burn for about 5 minutes and then things would go numb. I couldn't handle the initial burning and I also thought that it was causing more damage than help so I told her I couldn't use it anymore. She then called in an RX for the same cream minus the lidocaine. I used it some but never got any relief.

Well fast forward about 10 months and I have been treated by a PT for some pelvic alignment issues and my pain has localized. It's mostly on my right side where I have a 16 yr old scar from a tear during childbirth. I have tried using a neuragen cream, valium cream, and the second compound cream (minus lido). I would get a little relief from these but nothing to "write home about".

I have undergone shockwave and laser therapy with my chiropractor and it has caused me to flare so I decided to try the original compound with the lidocaine and it has helped immensely. I don't apply it to the mucous part of the vulva but just outside the vulva where the skin and hair is and where my scar is. I do feel a slight burn but it's not anything like what it felt like when I was applying it to the vulva. I can handle it.
Burning vulva pain began 10/09
Treated for SIJD 9/10 and burning stopped and pain localized to rt side
Surgery w/ Dr Dellon 5/11 - didn't help my pain
2012 - PT, massage therapy, and ART therapy from chiropractor
MRI showed labral tear and US of groin found hernias
2/13 - surgery for sports hernia
5/13 - still have obturator internus spasms
5/13 - appt with ortho spine dr
8/16/13 - Arthroscopic surgery to rt hip for FAI and torn labrum

Hi Griff,

Have you seen any positive response from the shockwave/laser treatments?

Scared gal, I posted a little about it under Non-Surgical option topic.

I've only had two treatments so it's a little too early to tell. I am cautiously optimistic though because I feel a little less tightness (tugging/pulling) in the area of the scar. My nerve is still not very happy though. I do feel different types of sensations like tingling and itching and my chiro says that "different" could be a good sign.
