78y/o male with Chronic pain over the left ischial tuberosity. Pain occurs localized while sitting and lying down. For sensitive to finger touch.
Originally diagnosed by Pelvic PT as obturator internus muscle tightness at attachment to the ischial tuberosity. Had 5 mo of PT with massage to this area and no improvement. Saw an orthopedic physician today who believes the problem is the bursa at the site of attachment to the ischial tuberosity is inflamed...bursitis. He is sending me to a pain specialist for anesthetic and steroid injection. The pain is relieved by standing but am so exhausted of standing and my feet and ankles are stressed and sore.
Anyone have any experience with this condition.
Ischial Gluteal tuberosity Bursitis
Re: Ischial Gluteal tuberosity Bursitis
There have been other forum members who were diagnosed with ischial tuberosity bursitis but they don't stay around the forum long. Hopefully that's because the steroid injections helped and they have moved on with their lives. It certainly seems worth a try if your doctor is experienced at these type of injections. I'm guessing it's much less complicated than a pudendal nerve block.
It can be difficult to isolate exactly where the pain comes from. Good luck -- I hope the injections work for you.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Thank you Violet. I appreciate your comment.
The pain specialist I am going to is a former president of the American Pain Society. I have been to him before with a good result on cervical facet arthritis. So I have optimism.

Sounds like he should know what he's doing then and that your optimism is well-founded. Hoping for the best for you.

Prinxtruc1356,
Have you considered stem cell therapy? My name is Peggy Rogers. I have lived with chronic neuropathic pelvic pain for the past 20 years. I developed pudendal neuropathy after a vaginal hysterectomy due to a vaginal cuff abscess after a hysterectomy. I've tried everything from surgery, medications, nerve blocks, neurostimulators, injections, cryosurgery, radio frequency, & intrathecal pump. The only thing that relieved my pain is stem cell therapy. I recently received a stem cell paste injection into my damaged pudendal nerve area. The stem cell paste contains a very high concentration of stem cells. The stem cells will expand to 4cm at the injection site. The stem cells will stay at that site for 2years. The stem cells will be healing and combating inflammation/pain. My stem cell physician is Dr. Todd Malan of Scottsdale AZ. Dr. Malan told me that this stem cell paste injection can be injected into any disc/joint. Even if there is no cartilage in the joint. The stem cells will grow new cartilage for that joint. I believe that the stem cells can help with your gluteal tuberose type bursitis. The stem cells are attracted to inflammation. My abdominal adipose tissue was harvested by a mini lipo-suction. Then through computerized equipment, the stem cells are separated from the adipose tissue. Then only live stem cells are counted & separated for the injection. I was given light sedation for the procedure. As of today, I haven't felt burning pelvic pain since the injection on 1/18/2017. If you would like more information on this stem cell paste injection, please send me a message.

Tried Dr. Malan after reading here. Received injections with zero results last summer. It was a costly out- of- pocket waste of time.
