Recovery time

Post by MarianneB. »

I would like to say how grateful I am for the support of this site. I have had PN for three years and after all conservative tx failed I had surgery. I am now one week post op excision of part of my sacrotuberous that had my nerve trapped and all of my Sacrospinouse ligament. I am curiouse how long it takes to get over this incisional pain? Would love to hear others experiences.

I think my incisions took between six to eight weeks to heal. I was getting discomfort for a few months after that, but not too bad... I wish you a speedy recovery from your surgery.

Hi Marianne,

Six to eight weeks is typical for incisions to heal but if you had the TG approach and your gluteal muscle was cut, it may take time to get rid of that pain. It might require some therapies such as cold laser therapy, ice and heat, physical therapy, and maybe even hot/cold sitz baths, maybe with epsom salts, to bring circulation to the area and promote healing. But for now it's a matter of keeping the site clean, not sitting, and not overdoing your activity so the area can heal.

Wishing you all the best in your recovery.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
