Do people with PN often have trigger point injections that are not guided? I'm scheduled in a couple of weeks. He's done a lot of them. It's going into the muscles in vagina, not the nerve itself... to help relax them for physical therapy.

Nerve blocks can be guided but I have never heard of a doctor doing guided trigger point injections. Nerve blocks need to be done quite precisely but trigger point injections can be done by feel of the muscle and tissue.
PN started 2004 from fall. Surgery with Filler Nov. 2006, Dr. Campbell April 2007. Pain decreased by 85% in 2008 (rectal and sitting pain resolved completely), pain returned in 12/13. Pain reduced significantly beginning around 11/23.

I had trigger point injections done by a gynecologist through the vagina. Extremely painful. I cried. Increased my pain severely and took months to recover. Sorry to tell you that, but I thought it best to be honest.

Hi Emily, why did your dr. Think that you needed these injections? Did the worsening pain go away? Did he seem like a compitant Dr. ?Emily B wrote:I had trigger point injections done by a gynecologist through the vagina. Extremely painful. I cried. Trigger point injections are so short lived, it is really not worse it in my opinion. I had many of them and 2 days later my trigger points would be back. Why bother.

The Dr. Who wants to do mine, wants it to b helpful so my muscles will relax more that day so my PT can go n there better. I think that's the main goal.

That was the rational for me too. To make PT more effective. It made no difference.
It is your decision. You should push back if you are not comfortable.
Again there is very little evidence it is helpful.

I have had multiple trigger point injections followed by PT. 25.00 copayment for gyn and 150.00 for PT. Got one evening of relief pain back by the next morning. Not worth the $$$
