Labral tears and PN pain, there is a correlation.

Post by Hopefulnurse »

Hi everyone. I was a 26 year old athletic female when my PN began. It started with an itching, burning feeling in my vulva. In the beginning it was terrible, even standing I felt like I had fiberglass in my undies. The burning almost drove me crazy. Associated symptoms were burning urination and left/right flank area pain. I had many misdiagnosis before we actually found the cause. Just before my injury I was using the stairmaster, the eliptical, and running 5 miles a day. After a year of generalized vulvodynia, I started to notice a dull pain in my right hip when sitting. To make a long story short, I have a right labral tear caused by a pincer fai that is causing my PN (or what we think is PN, he says it could be a myofascial reponse to injury) according to my orthopedic physician. I plan to have the arthoscopic repair asap. I'm trying to figure out how I can afford to take time off work for the recovery. I actually never had hip pain until recently, weirdly enough. My surgeon claims that it is possible to not have acute pain in your hip if you have a tear. My advice to anyone struggling with PN pain or vulvodynia that was very active during the onset of their symptoms, have a hip MRI to rule out a labrum tear. I will keep the blog posted on my progress through the right hip arthoscopy.

Thanks for posting your story. If you have a chance, you may want to read Lernica's posts on her successful labrum tear surgery. http://www.pudendalhope.info/forum/view ... 640#p49640

Wishing you all the best with your procedures. I will be interested to hear how it goes for you.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
